coffeebaron: Why did you not leave modem where it was and wire in the VoIP port to a secondary jack-point?You could still do that by putting a new triple outlet in the cupboard: 1) the VDSL splitter connects to the first jack, 2) Ethernet connects on the second jack to an Ethernet (Cat5e) cable going to where they installed the current DSL outlet, and 3) internal phone network connects on the 3rd jack to take the modem's VoIP output. The only limitation with this setup would be that your modem requires a good power supply, and I suggest connecting it to a small (eg 300VA would be heaps) UPS or at least a good surge protector.
Time to find a new industry!
