Has anyone tried SNR Tweaking with 998?  IIRC back in the early VDSL days I was getting a good 8Mb or so through SNR tweaking (it's buried somewhere in the big VDSL thread, I can't recall exact numbers but it was significant) but I've since reverted to stock settings on my fritzbox. I'm still curious what the change to 998 does to the options for SNR tweaking though.

Given the larger spectrum for downstream i would suspect you would see maybe an extra mbit over 997 per snr drop..

Changes in error rates is one thing that hasnt really been looked at in detail on GZ for 998 yet, which for snr tweaking would clearly be a key point.

With how effective 998 is, 8b is already at hitting that 50mbit mark even on subpar lines, and 17a only having two upstreams. Pegging out without tweaking is not unrealistic.  Seeing upwards of 77Mbit on 8b like has been posted in here is insane!

Jase2985:
nigelj: Got woken up from a bad nights rest and noticed a resync.

So assuming this is the 998 update (others have said that "Power Management Mode" isn't changing with G998), Downstream is now about 2-4Mbit better than best sync, but my upstream still has taken a beating like Rich's.  Makes me wonder if there is some super strange profile or something...

but your DS is 8mbsp better than the old one and yoru US is still the same or am i missing something

you really need to be able to access the graphs to confirm

From the post that I was quoting from:

I've been keeping an eye on mine after quite a sudden slide in sync speeds lately ~15% loss in Downstream, and ~50% loss in Upstream in one sudden overnight (about 2 weeks ago) resync that seems to be quite sticky.

To put it in the longer term.. the connection has gone from ~28/8 to ~32/4.

The other context you may be missing, is that something similar happened to a line on @richms 's property next to a perfectly fine line which is why I'm starting to wonder if there is some super weird 4Mbps upload profile.  (They irony was I went on a 1ms profile the day the Upstream took a beating)

Is it still possible to drop the SNR on the frizboxes with the new firmware? Was under the impression it wasn't currently possible?

Just to confirm
The migrations happen between 2am and 4am. It causes a brief outage and they expect to complete it by 18th December ( I would assume this is all going well). So not the 4 weeks initially stated in this tread.

Are there many connections that are now no longer working or have degraded to the point that they are useless?

Unfortunately I don't have that information. I have not heard of any connections being downgraded to adsl because vdsl has stopped working... But with any luck, you probably have more chance of an increase rather than a decrease.

Mines only 17/3.5  im just up the road from you man off Tramway. But I am crossing my fingers I get 20mbps  once the transmit power is increased.

Not bad, i would have liked to see upload slightly higher considering your in that upper end but at 8b that is an impressive sync.

7/8ms, not sure if thats a fritz rounding thing or not but im noticing that as somewhat of a standard around.. makes me wonder if chorus have played with their DLM profiles a little more..

i think it's just a new conservative default dlm profile.  it used to be that lines gained interleaving over time, now they start with it and lose it.

Stab in the dark but... ikanos = capped to 70/30, broadcom = more than 70/30? Just trying to understand a few that have been higher and the comments implying broadcom is better in some way.
