STI: Btw how long does it take to get an ADSL connection with Xnet after signing up? Currently I only have rental telephone connection with Telecom and a dialup account with ihug.

Because you have your line with Telecom, it will make things faster than if it was rented via iHUG.

Xnet will warn you that there could be a wait of up to 10 days. That seems to be the worst case, but usually it will be done within 3 working days, or sometimes faster.

That resistance is high compared to the distance of the line. Its not related to your house wiring so probably caused by old wiring in the street. You might be able to log a fault and get the cable pair changed if there are better wires available. Otherwise you could ask your ISP to install a Telecom splitter at the beginning, and if they cant get a signal then no charge. Actually I suspect you will get better attenuation than the estimate but who knows. I think sometimes they estimate a kind of loopback attenuation figure. 700ohms should be good for 2 or 3 megs anyway. Would be worth connecting the modem to your master jack and run ethernet out to wherever you put the computer.

Time to find a new industry!
