My Attenuation according to Chorus = 15db, my modem reports 19db (Vigor 130 in ADSL2+)
I've always reckonned that the Cabinet was about 1.6km away, as its's the only one I can see where I live.
I hounded Chorus to put on VDSL2 as my ADSL connection was 24Mbps down, 880Kbps up, pretty well maxed out
They kept arguing that 10db attenuation or less gets VDSL, but they relented finally

My VDSL2 connection is 40Mbps down, 7.9Mbps, making a mockery of all this attenuation distance stuff
Vigor 130 now reports Attenuation as 23db on VDSL2

Glad that I persevered with this, was well worth it

your cabinet wont be 1.6km away if you are getting those speeds.

so its not really making a mockery of it, you might just be misinformed where your cabinet is

If you have a master filter and some nice wiring, then yeh go back to ADSL. But if you have not got a master filter and good wiring done, then get that done first.

1100 meters is about the max range VDSL will go, so you might find its about the same speed as ADSL.

But i was about 900m from the cabinet and ADSL went about 12mbit and VDSL did about 25mbit.

When I was 900m from the cabinet, with a VDSL master filter and with new Cat6 house wiring, I got 12mbps down on ADSL2 and 14mbps on VDSL2 (which cost more).

So I went back to ADSL.

(My downstream attenuation was 19dB - the OP has 32dB, which is a lot worse)

My attenuation was 21, the down speed didn't increase much, but the up speed went from 1Mbps to 3.8Mbps and that breathed some life into my internet experience, so I stuck with it (at that time I had a unlimited internet plan so cost wasn't a major set back seeing that my uploads are 4 times faster)

I think not, i live in the middle of no where
Can only have one attached inage so here is where Chorus Cabinet to my house distance as per https://gis.geek.nz/celltowers#chorus_cabinets
There are no other cabinets for 35km, there is a copper feeder box about 5km further up the lake.

Shortest it could possibly be is 850m (400m to road (I put cable in) then 450m to cabinet up a 50m hill where the village sits on a terrace

Remember to consider, He is in Rural situation.

i can without a doubt tell you that urban vs rural is very different for attenuation to distance, Often this is a product of the larger copper used.
