What's your issue with a phone number?
Robots that go around harvesting e-mail addresses, phone numbers, etc are really a pain. That's why it's not a good idea to have these on a public page.

Man haven't you guys heard of the handup button and spam control?

"Hello I'm just calling..." click, is my normal response if you call when my wife wants me making dinner :)

On the other hand, what's the value of this speed info to us all if it were a bit more complete?

Frankly the repeated posts about speeds serve no value other than to take up some bandwidht to do the testing and post the rant.

Orcon 3.5/128 - [Moderator edit (bradstewart): removed phone number, do not post personal information in the forums]

Oh ffs, mate, how is anyone meant to make use of the data if they can't identify where it's comming from?

Should I change my on screen name so you can't identify my using the white pages?  What's your issue with a phone number?

Because this thread compares connection speeds in different areas. Your phone number is not neccesary for people to compare data. If you want to just post your suburb. Its just common sense not to post that sort of thing.

Nobody is forcing you to take part. No gun to your head. I fail to see how a phone number can improve the comparisons. Get over it and get back on topic.

With the phone numbers you can start to identify areas in the telephone network by exchange that aren't returning good performance.

If there were many people actually complaining about performance (which there aren't) then I'd put up a performance system as I've done lots of programing in the past with TCD tables and we could quickly identify which exchanges are having back haul problems and which ones aren't.

I'm also wondering how many ISPs are also having problems with back office systems at present.  My Orcon connection is like a yoyo (as I said before) and after tonights surfing so is TC it would seem.

You're quite right, no one is forcing me to do squat.... even less so to bother with this threed.

However I'm interested in these issues.  I've followed performance issues in Australian networks as a hobbie for a number of years.

Cheers Don

You only need the first 3 numbers to indentify the exchange. Not the whole number.

Oh great.... and had I done that then there would be ten thousand people banging at my door for posting the first 3 digits of their number on the net!

You mean opposed to them being only mildly angry when you posted the whole number. This is utterly ridiculous.

I simply informed you that i was removing the posted number for an obviously sensible reason. If you really need to work out the exchange the use the first 3 numbers which can hardly be used to annoy people.

If this goes off topic again i am simply locking it. You have been warned.

But hold on... it was my number....  I pay the bill.... don't I have every right to allow my self to be annoyed?   Sure, I'd see you point if I was posting someone elses number, but I'm not... I posted the 7 digits that I pay for each month... infact I even answer every day.

You may feel that it's 'obviously sensible', but I don't.  I disagree completely that there is any issue with my putting my phone number out there for the whole world to see.

Cheers Don

You can do what you want with the 7 digits you pay for every month. The GZ team can also do what they want with the bandwidth and file space they pay for every month. NOW SHUTTUP!!!!

Actually you may only post what is allowed by the forum usage guidelines and the moderators. You have to live by the rules here. Im saying you cannot post a phone number here. I dont care if you pay the bill for it. It doesnt get posted here, end of story.

I really hope to close the discussion here. We don't allow e-mail addresses and phone numbers to be publicly shown in posts for security only. Since we don't have a signed waiver document from each individual user saying they are happy with their information being on-line, then I have oriented the moderators to remove this information from posts.

Is that ok now? I am sorry, but these are the rules in the house.
