I would check
1)Disk Space, - you simply have run low on disk space, due to old temporary files.
2) Nvidia Driver may have updated itself - (Remove and reinstall Nvidia Driver, and check windows 'device manager' & make sure no warnings against Video Card)

Not sure why nobody else is mentioning the device removed error. The fact that the machine is working while idle/low power tasks like youtube etc. but has system crash after 5min or so gaming is pointing to GPU or PSU issues.

Please try the points in my earlier comment. You want to check temperature first, test nvidia debug mode second and edit TdrDelay to 10 or so as a third step. Then move on to other components if no difference.

Edit: the only exception to the above is if you had cpu issues ala intel 13/14th gen instability which also exhibited the same symptom among others (out of video memory). From memory this machine has a 10th gen intel which is not affected.

Start from the hardware and work upwards, ie:

1: Ensure case is clear of excess dust and cooling fans connected are working as expected (fans can and will fail over time), any heatsinks/coolers are attached properly and not loose

2: Monitor the CPU, GPU and other case/system temperatures at idle there are many tools for this  (hwmonitor, open hardware monitor, speedfan etc)

3: Run a memory test, also many tools for this Windows Memory Diagnostic (built into Windows), memtest64, memtests86 etc

4: While monitoring temps stress test the CPU/Memory with something like prime95 toture test or other benchmarking software

5: While monitoring temps stress test the GPU with something like furmark or other benchmarking software

6: While monitoring temps run both CPU stress and GPU stress at the same time

#3 should identify faulty memory, #4-6 will help you figure out if it's overheating/insufficient cooling overall or CPU vs GPU specific

If it's not cooling related it's probably flaky part or software, if you suspect a particular part you can rule our flaky parts by trying them in another PC (easier to do for GPU harder for CPU)

etc

Sorry we've been extremely busy and just haven't had the time, or patients, to do much with the computer right now. We ran an extensive memory test, took hours, but came back with 0 problems. We are running the graphics card on debug mode, nothing there. I should have clarified that the games don't run for minutes, more like 60-90 seconds max.

Again thank you I will start working through y'alls list again tomorrow.

I had a friend whose PC was crashing and having boot issues.

Ended up being two issues.

1) the SSD holding his O/S was on the way out, software said it was healthy but it was an old Samsung 980 sata SSD and I think they had firmware issues.

2) issue was the CPU overheating, CPU temp spiking above 95 degrees running youtube.

I put new thermal paste on the CPU.
The old paste had dried out pretty badly and was a bit flakey and putty-like.
Another issue was that the plastic cover was still on the CPU cooler.... so that was an issue.

This machine had been running for years and was ex-lease from a software business.

Recommend checking CPU temps, I used Speccy, however, the PC might be more than one issue too.
When it rains, it can pour.

OK so I've tried to download hwinfo but I don't know why I'm struggling. Thus is what I'm seeing and I've circled what I'm clicking on.

But I found that you can go through the task manager and this is what I've seen

That was when I was trying to load Frostpunk.

The above is what was happening before it shut down for no reason. The program I was able to use is speccy.

Temps all look fine.....   maybe grab the latest video drivers from Nvidia, then grab DDU and run it.... Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) download latest version 18.0.8.5 | Wagnardsoft

This will flush out all video drivers for a clean start for your video card. Once its done, then install the new Nvidia drivers and see how it goes.

Also maybe run something like CCleaner/BitBleach to clear out temp/junk files. Be careful tho, as they can flush out saved passwords etc from your browser which you may not have saved anywhere :)

I'm going to keep an eye on the temp as it was fluctuating, just sitting there, by 10°,the cpu. I never got a temp read while it was revving, if that makes sense.

yea at idle which is where they were taken, haven't seen them under load yet.

@Twalknz72 with HWinfo download the portibile one, its just an .EXE to open/run

Then when open, run up a game, or what ever to put the CPU/GPU under load, It will measure the max/min/average and instantaneous value

Should look something like this
You are looking for
CPU [#0] and its name and,
GPU [#0] and its name

I've broken down and called a mobile tech as I think this is beyond what I'm able to do. Even if I'm able to diagnose a temp problem I'd still need one as I won't touch a hardware fix.

Trying to diagnose a temp is problematic as it shuts down when under load, with in seconds.

Hopefully the tech will be able to fix it and we don't have to replace it yet as it had been running everything fine, before.

It's the GPU. Thank you for all your help. Looks like we'll be watching the black Friday sales. Any suggestions for a new GPU would be fantastic.

Good to know the issue, lucky black Friday sales are starting now or soon.
PB-Tech is doing some presales with price protection.

GPU suggestions are possible but further details are required.

  1. Price range, min happy to spend and max willing to spend?
  2. Common games that are played?
  3. Game graphics quality desired (Low, Med, High, Ultra)?
  4. Resolution of the monitor or desired resolution (1080p, 1440p, 4K)?
  5. Refresh rate/frame rate wanted for game(s) (60FPS, 120FPS, more)?
  6. Is ray tracing a priority feature wanted?
  7. If there are any NVIDIA features or technologies wanted or if willing to look at AMD?

Curious, how did they ascertain it was the GPU ? I'm always wary of using mobile techs as most are out to make a quick $$$ and tell you something expensive is faulty in the hopes you'll buy new from them.
