By guessing most likely.

Twalknz72: So this was my thought
https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/user/Twalknz/saved/#
Everything is existing except the msi 4060 ti looking at price and performance this seems to be the best value but please tell me if I'm mistaken
My 2cents.
1) that is your personal log in, we can't see the part list
2) not sure what your 4060 ti pick is, so cant say if best value.
3) not sure your use case for GPU so don't know if it is overkill, underkill or just like goldilocks and her porridge, just right.
Used PB-tech as the price point for GPU's.
If you are looking at price for performance then the 4060 ti, loses out to the 4060RTX and RX7600.
Take average 15 game benchmark from here

Note: $/frame changes if prices are different, this is to give a reference of price per frame.

The RX 7600 is the best bang for the buck in terms of cost per frame, however, it doesn't have DLSS and other NVIDIA tech, so if you want that, they will rule out the RX 7600.
The standard 4060 is the 2nd best in terms of bang for buck, however, if you are aiming for 120fps over 60fps, $ per frame kind of goes out the window and it is, the more you spend the better you will be solid at 120 fps.
why a 10700K? its 4 years old now

It's what they already have, not buying new.
GPU wise, yeah don't go for the 16GB 4060 Ti, it is bait, it is the same performance as the 8GB 4060 Ti for a huge mark up for no extra performance!
The extra Vram in this card do not really help it, if you are wanting more performance and vram you need to either go higher i.e 4070 super or look at AMD GPU's.
Your cost performance goes from
1080p $5.86 per frame To $7.20 per frame
1440p $8.32 per frame to $10.24 per frame.
I say this as someone that has a 7900 XTX with 24GB vram.
The 16GB 4060 ti is not good value at $799.00
Twalknz72: It's the GPU. Thank you for all your help. Looks like we'll be watching the black Friday sales. Any suggestions for a new GPU would be fantastic.
How did they determine it was a GPU hardware issue? ie: Did they switch to the integrated GPU on the CPU, did they try it in another PC, did they try clean reinstall of the GPU drivers etc? Did you get temperature monitoring working and run a benchmark like furmark?
Twalknz72: Thank you so much. I saw the 16 and thought it should be better but that's why I come to y'all and ask.
I've done the side by side GPU comparison
https://technical.city/en/video/GeForce-RTX-4060-vs-GeForce-RTX-4070-SUPER
It looks like the standard 4060 say this one
https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/VGAASU340600A/ASUS-DUAL-NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-4060-OC-8GB-GDDR6-Gra
Is better value, performance, for money? Would y'all agree with that?
Yup it is the standard 4060 in that benchmark.
If you are happy with the numbers then, it is the best bang for buck from Nvidia at the moment.
RTX 5000 release date is January 2025, based on rumor and speculation, so depending on how long you want to wait, you could pick up a 5060 next year.

Like Ragnor, I am curious as to how the Tech Serviceman ascertained that it was the GPU causing your problem seeing it only happened with certain gaming titles.
It's unlikey he would have had a similar card in his vehicle to swap it out and check if that solved the problem (but still a possibility) as is also unlikely he having a similar PC setup in his van to try the 2060 in it.
Perhaps you'd like to share what was his/her reasoning for the diagnosis before he/she gave you the bill? 😀
You'll be highly tee'd off if you spend $500 only to find you're still in the same situation.

Twalknz72: So the tech was able to diagnose the GPU problem from a number of tests they, and I on advise by y'all, has run. The computer was shutting down whenever the GPU was under stress. It would frequently pop up with a request to update /reinstall the GPU driver and it, now, has escalated to all games. It won't run any GPU test more than a few seconds before the test shuts down. So if it's not that then we'll just be going forward with an upgrade to the machine, structured around the new GPU, anyways as it is a 4 year old computer.
Ta.... that satisfies the curiosity!!
One has a suspicious mind sometimes of expert technicians.
Situation: 2008 Fiat Punto - Intermittent starting problems over 12 month period
Fiat Dealer diagnosis: All computer tests show no problem. $350
Fiat Specialist garage diagnosis: New starter motor required. $750 spent
Auto Electrician(s) First one diagnosis: Can't find any problem (no charge)
Second one diagnosis: $14 relay, 1 hour labour...... all fixed.
Good luck with your GPU journey!
