albadry: Where did you buy it from?  A shop or an ebay trader?  How much if you don't mind me asking?

Bought from Amazon for around 500USD

2 working days to anywhere in USA. Amazon does not ships electronic goods outside US so you will need to either use a mail forwarding company like shipito, comgateway or ship to your friend/relative in US and then get them to ship it to you in NZ or they can bring the device with them if they are travelling back to NZ.

awesome, I'm hanging out for mine.. it was shipped last week, so I'm expecting it any day now...
I've ordered the unlock code too.
Will post my experiences as soon as it arrives.

Time for an update.
My phone arrived on Friday. After impatient 24 hours or so the unlock code came through from the ebay seller nckzone, and it worked first time.
As others have commented, the screen is absolutely a stand out feature of this device. Just beautiful and the WP7 OS really shows it off well.
Even my iPhone4 toting colleagues are envious!

One word of warning though. As many of you will know, the memory expansion feature of the Samsung Focus is currently flawed by no certified cards being available. I took a gamble and ordered a Sandisk 32GB class 2 card, and while it fired up just fine, I have had a handful of resets in the 3 days since I've been running it. I haven't lost any data yet, so it's just been a minor inconvenience, but what will be more annoying will be:

  1. Waiting for a certified card to be available

  2. Losing all my data and settings when I replace the card with a certified one

  3. Reformatting my old card for resale.

Having approx 40GB storage will hopefully make it all worthwhile in the long run.

^ nice. are you looking to buy a case or screen protector for the focus? I am thinking of getting a silicon case to cover the corner/boundary. might order a screen protector not because it will get a scratch (gorilla glass) but protect the screen from finger prints etc. easier to take it off on the screen protector.

I seem to remember hearing(on CNET)  that once these cards were  formated in a W7 fone they were locked and could be reformatted again.  Not sure if this is still true.  They also said that the Nokia N8 was one of the few devices that could reformat these cards..

As far as I hear, you are correct on both counts.

I have a colleague that had a Nokia N8, but he recently changed to an iPhone...
Maybe the nice people at Vodafone will have a demo unit I can use for a couple of minutes, because I literally do not know anyone who has one in real life.
Checking the Vodafone website for details at the moment is throwing up HTTP 500 Server Errors so that's no help either!

I understand I have something on the way for Christmas, I don't know exactly what it is though.

I know I've got some Skinomi screen protectors: http://www.amazon.com/Skinomi-TechSkin-Protector-LIFETIME-REPLACEMENTS/dp/B003F8C1GK/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1292199070&sr=8-7

I'll report back here with the details once I know more.

You may also be able to format using an E series Nokia. I thought I read somewhere an E-71 or 72 had been used for this purpose.

So it's been a few months now, and my Samsung Focus has been awesome.
It remains still the best phone in the world for me.

I have not been able to configure the phone to send MMS messages though. I'm connected to 2degrees, and from their website, I see I should configure the phone like this:

MMS Settings
WAP Gateway Port (WAP2): 8080
WAP Gateway Port (WAP1): 9201
WAP gateway IP: 118.148.1.118
APN: mms
Homepage: http://mms.2degreesmobile.net.nz:48090

Sadly, there doesn't appear to be a place to manually configure this stuff on the phone.

Any Focus owners out there that can shed some light on this?

Cheers
