While a few niche people are going to love and adore this game. I think its a complete joke at the pledge amount on ships etc. They already made crap tonnes of money and even have a tier to pay usd $10000.

I don't ever see this turning out to be a mainstream fantastic universe game.

Chris roberts has far too much of an ego and is putting all his ideas forward disregarding alot of what the actual backers want.

Will it even release in 2016?likely yes but not complete

I've purchased 6 ships and found the latest release to be pretty fun, still needs a lot of work but looking good so far.  All up I've spend around $1300USD.

Wow. That is an eye opener.

Plas: Are you going to pay more for single/multiplayer?

Any idea how this compares to Eve: Valkyrie?

Holy Smokes, you could almost buy a real spaceship for that coin! :)

Yeah I've told myself no more buying pixels, but if they release some decent physical ship models I might spend more.

Compares in what way? Price?  Isn't Valkyrie "free" in that it's bundled with the rift?

Or do you mean gameplay - in which case I'd say that Star Citizen certainly seems to have much loftier goals, while Valkyrie looks cool but comes across a bit like a VR tech demo.

Found out no one has done any research into the game

Followed Star Citizen since we crashed the release website when it all started and read/watch everything they put out. To the people complaining about no release date, you do realize that RSI is doing things that have never been attempted before right? On the scale and complexity of this game nothing can come close (even eve).

They have always stated the packages would be split from the beginning, it was nothing new. Squadron 42 is the single player campaign with the timeline being before the PU with chapters being released as expansions to move the PU forward. It has some really big names in it and all together the scripting came to 10.5 hours of ingame cinematic. They reckon it will be at minimum 60 hours of gameplay if you just follow the campaign and dont go out and explore etc.

As for the state of the mini PU heres a build from the end of last year

Get a refund. The game isn't coming out. I registered (I usually lurk) to tell you to get your money out, because you've wasted $1300.  They've shifted the release date dozens of times, the game was meant to be out now, and they can't implement a ship properly. Heck, they can't even implement seats - hasn't one been removed?

I've been on and off following the game since the Kickstarter - I pledged $35 to see where the game was going. Arena Commander always crashed on me, and I gave up.

There is a very, very long SA thread on the game, but for a TL;DR, OP, I would not bother with Star Citizen. The game is broken, and it is never coming out. The 10.5 hours of cinematics are on the level of the infamous Wing Commander movie, complete with Chris Roberts' wife receiving top billing (lol). Roberts has also wasted large amounts of crowdfunded money reshooting his mo-cap. Dozens of major developers at CIG have bailed on the game already, because Chris Roberts is pulling another Freelancer. They admitted recently there wasn't even a design doc - while the game doesn't have physics and is a complete disaster, Chris Roberts is promising procedural farming.  If you've put money in it, refund it. Derek Smart, of all people, is calling the game a buggy and broken mess, and it is a buggy and broken mess. It's also taken them 4-5 years to deliver a complete trainwreck.

Buy Elite Dangerous or heck, grab a copy of Freelancer or one of the X-Wing games. Do not buy SC.

Considering how much they made from the crowd funding they should release the game for free, and then charge a fee to use the multiplayer to cover server costs.

I'm glad I didn't spend any money yet on Star Citizen. I think their main issue is that their company is almost an all-developer team without 'proper management' to keep them in line and have realistic scope/budget/deadlines.

I wont be requesting a refund, I pledged that money knowing that it could fail like all crowdfunded projects and took the risk. I don't know why people think that just because these projects reached funding goals things are going to be all sunshine and rainbows.

And why anyone listens to Derek Smart is beyond me, that guy needs some serious help for his obsession with Chris Roberts.
