Boerenerd: Thanks all.
If I go the 2nd router option, and don't get the mp264 working, do you guys have any recommendations on decent/affordable routers? Does quality of a router have affects on speed? And does it have to be a fibre specific router?
I know that the local recycle centre has plenty of routers laying about.
Cheers
Just remember you're not going to be using this router as a router.... you will be turning off the 'router' part of it and turning it into a WAP/switch. As such:
Do you guys have any recommendations on decent/affordable routers?
Virtually any router can be re-purposed for this, (even the one you have if you can work through the tricky interface) I mentioned the Belkin I use earlier as the setup for that was very straightforward with a menu option for use as a WAP.
Does quality of a router have affects on speed?
Yes and no. Quality will probably have more effect on reliability than speed. Virtually all routers out there will have 100Mbit ports for wired connections, some will have 1Gbit ports. Wireless speeds will depend on the wireless standards it can handle, 802.11 a/b/g or n or ac.
And does it have to be a fibre specific router?
No. The main router in the house is doing this job. This one is just to be used for it's WAP/switch features so no need to be VLAN tag capable.
