Hi, they look good, although of the two which is not working, have you tried pushing the plug in and out a few times (at each end/socket) just to wipe the contacts of any potential corrosion

If either looks a bit odd I would say the bottom photo the orange/white wire looks as though not fully home.

Also the two grey patch leads in the cabinet, are they normally fully wired cables, just check they are, I would presume so, but as they were used for phone circuits they may be wired less.

i checked the grey cables. they both work fine.

the wires seem to be fine, i can't figure out what's wrong with it.

just about other question, what if i want to have more than 4 wall sockets, then i would run out of ports for the router right? what should i do?

Hi, you can expand the number of ports with a switch, not expensive. Obvioulsy you would need to get more cables run, I recommend you also think about having one or two ceiling outlets (assuming you can access the ceiling) that lets you install better quality wireless.

Are the sockets in your living room and rest of house numbered?

reading this again, it looks like only two actual sockets in the house have wires running from them back to this panel

or are there only 2 sockets in total for Ethernet?

There are just two cables run in the house, so more will need to be run before a switch port shortage is a reality.

so can i have a ethernet cable runnign from my ethernet port on my wall to a switch, then i just plug say my TV, tv box, etc, into the switch, then they will all have internet?

yes, there are only 2 sockets in the house. number 1 is the living room one, and number 2 is the one in the bedroom. And only the one in the bedroom works.

Hi yes you can use a single cable as an uplink to the router and use a small switch in the lounge and plug in several devices and they all have Internet.

Along with 8 port switches as I linked earlier you can also get 5 port ones that may make more sense.

As for the faulty cable, did you try inserting a plug in the socket at both the lounge and hub several times to see if it was a corroded socket.

It may pay to get a data cabler to come and check the circuit to see why it does not go, where are you?

Could you use a cable tester? Not expensive on Trademe. Plug one unit at both ends and watch the blinking lights.
