steve98: Can you confirm that new registrations are still on hold though? Or should I call again and be setup straight away now?

They set me just before so you should be good to go (although you may have to bear with them as they flip through their training material Wink).

Thanks for that. Just called them up and they say it is enabled, but as yet it will still not let me log in.

Give it a few minutes and try again.  It's got to populate through the system.

steve98: Why is this thread getting filled up with "my bank's mobile banking is better than your bank's mobile banking" posts? Let's keep this on-topic -- this thread is for discussing the National Bank app.
Would have thought that the comparison of features of this native App to other banks related webapps /mobile apps would be relevant.
Agree the "my banks better than..." is not constructive however providing information on comparative features of various bank platforms is beneficial.. at least to one person reading.

Interesting - will give it a whirl..

Also out of interest, does anyone have any insight on why they've chosen to make an iPhone app rather than just enable a mobile website (which could potentially be skinned for multiple devices as well)?

My initial thought is that it makes me feel a little 'un-easy' installing an app to access banking via the net. It's kind of a 'black box' situation where you don't quite know whats happening security wise and have to just have faith in the developers.

None the less - still a step in the right direction.

As per my previous response to same question earlier, this is not the *only* mobile banking application produced by National Bank. They also have their MBanking java applet which works on practically any other mobile phone.

Thanks Steve,

But thats not really my question - I'm not nit-picking at the devices they've chosen to write apps for - I'm interested to know why they're writing apps at all. It seems contrary to the way everyone else chooses to implement these types of systems (and how I myself as a developer would recommend doing it).

Fair comment -- yeah, I'm not sure but personally I'm glad of it. Native apps often have a more polished / reliable feel than optimized web pages. Could it be a security thing as well? I guess there is no chance of anybody being able to access what I've done in my browser history etc if its a native app?

Up and running on one of my business accounts - a bit of confusion and sitting on hold to get it activated but we got there in the end. Works fine - not much you can do really, but what it does - it does fine. Should be handy to check balances... would be great to see v2 with transaction support.

Personally I love the idea of these Apps. This is why I like the iPhone.

I can't wait till my bank has a dedicated iPhone app. And I like the idea that it shows my account balance and history and that’s all. Half the time that's why I call the bank.

As far as security goes I'm not really concerned. The onus is on the bank to keep your money safe and if they introduce an app that is easily hacked and I've done everything right, then it is their responsibility. You’ve got to trust them or else we wouldn't even have internet banking.

I also think a nice addition to the simple app would be a nearest branch locater. Using A-GPS and one quick search you would be on your way there!

According to the blurb on the app store, access to this app is included in your normal online banking fees.
