Just looking at it I would say dive underfloor before ceiling, my guess is all services are underfloor, as to how to get there, ask the cat.

haha um I found it. any dos or donts, just crawl under there? Never done this before. We have under floor insulation by the looks of it, I'm not gonna have to pull that down am I?

Hi, take a torch a head mounted led light is best, put on old clothes, expect it to be possibly damp, dark and you will come out covered in spider webs, oh and did I mention spiders :)

You may need to pull down the insulation, but obviously it will have to go back again, but first identify what you have and where.

SUCCESS!

So the blue wire was quite short, and attached to another wire that went all over the place.
So we cut the blue wire from the ETP and I fed a CAT6 wire down the phone jack and fed that into ETP. Cut the end of the CAT6 cable at the ETP end and wired them to the blue and white from the street. (had to use basic screw together connectors, I will go buy some gel ones tomorrow. the other end I left as is and its plugged straight into the Fritz!Box.

AAAANNNNDDD... I am now at 38mb/s down. With another 7 days of DLM so hopefully that goes up but for now I'm so happy. Line attenuation hasn't changed but hopefully better connectors help that.

Do you think it's worth installing a master filter between my cat6 and the cable from the street? Store across road sells them and once ive got the gel connectors, pretty confident I can put it in easy as. Thinking this way if I ever have any problems it'll be a safe bet that its not the internal wiring.

What you have done is fine a splitter will achieve very little if you don't have a POTS line.
