Do the isolation test then. Will prove whether it's inside your network or outside your network

Kiwigamer: It hasn't only been happening today, its just today that its become unplayable. It was noticeable and annoying the last two weeks.
Today: unplayable.

Games are hosted in California, USA for both League of Legends and Diablo 3.

Honestly an Isolation test would be almost impossible to do in this house. 14 devices on the DHCP list atm.
Iphones, Ipads, Imac, AppleTV. Smart home cinema stuff (cabinet full of smart amps, audio visual stuff that I frankly have no clue about) Two desktops. And other stuff I'm sure I've left out.

There is at least one, possible two Ethernet switches and squillions of cat5 cables running through the walls.

LOL - but you probably have listed it here. Until you can do an isolation test you are just guessing what the issue might be....

So I take it there is no utility built into the Router to figure out where data usage is going?

Would the LAN being saturated with local data be an issue that could affect me using internet data? (If we have a 100mbps switch thats pushing 100mbps worth of local data around between the home cinema somehow?)

Only way I will be able to do an isolation test is when everyone is away/asleep. I don't want to be that guy who gets thrown out of his flat because he cant play his games...

From memory I tried gaming at 2am (when house is dead asleep) and still had latency issues... but will have to reconfirm

Fudge it, just went and had a chat to the entire flat.
Turns out for the last two hours no one has been doing anything. Nothing has been updating everyone has felt the bad net activity and is currently not using it, so turns out I was the only one trying to do anything (Playing Diablo 3 with 200ms spiking to 2090ms)

Alright, how is this for a isolation test.

1) Unplug UFB Modem & Orcon Genius - Leaving these off for 5mins
2) Turning on UFB Modem - Leaving for 1min before Turning on Genius
3) Loging into Genius Web Interface & turning on MAC filtering to only allow my Gaming PC to connect
4) Restart Genius via Web Interface
5) Test time (Back to Diablo 3) ._.

Is the ADSL sync light on the genius supposed to be orange for a UFB connection?

Yes - because you don't have an ADSL connection.

And no, that isn't an isolation test, you could have any amount of traffic on the lan killing your throughput. Isolation means just that. No WiFi, all LAN cables unplugged except the test machine and the ONT.

Try not to do it at 2am, you never know what engineering work Chorus are doing, like ADSL UFB is best efforts so Chorus are free to work on the network and may well do so locally at any time overnight without notice to ISPs.

Well, Ive noticed some solid improvement after doing what I outlined. Although Ive only just allowed the rest of the devices to connect back on and now I am much too tired to look at this further tonight.

Its also possible that since its midnight on a school night all the local kiddies have gotten off facebook and gone to bed?

Is it something that can be fixed if its neighbourhood congestion? (Obviously not by having anything done to my end, but can the neighbourhood's network infrastructure be improved if it turned out that was the limiting factor?)

Well I'll have to do a proper isolation test next time, like I said I am not sure where 90% of the Cat5 cables are going.

the likelihood of it being neighborhood congestion is very very slim

do a proper isolation test when you would normally game and experience the issue (you have to physically removed the other ethernet connections and turn off wifi to do it properly) the you will know what the issue is
