I can be ultra-clear about this, there are no throttles applied to any traffic on our capped, or uncapped plans - the ONLY feature difference (ignoring any bundle differences as the 200Gb plan is a couple of years or so old), is the included data volume.

Does Orcon have a separate bandwidth pool for uncapped vs capped plans?

Have a read from the 3rd paragraph onwards

We have separate ip pools yes (necessary from a provisioning perspective) - but those ip pools have identical bandwidth policies. I've asked for that wording to be reviewed as it may not best reflect the current position.

Bear in mind since that was written, Unlimited has been and continues to be our most popular plan both by new sales and plan change, its not in our interest to artificially limit it in any way other than by overall capacity (as with any ISP there are finite limits to anything....).

Sideface: I recently upgraded from Orcon ADSL2 to VDSL2 at the same address.
The Chorus install included a new VDSL filter at the External Termination Point (ETP) and new Cat6 cable run to a new RJ45 jackpoint.
I was upgraded to a new "white" Orcon Genius modem at no charge.
Unfortunately, my VDSL speeds after the upgrade were only marginally better than my previous ADSL speeds, and were less than 15/5Mbps down/up.
This slow VDSL connection was due to the line distance between me and the local cabinet - in no way was it Orcon's fault.
Orcon cheerfully wound me back to ADSL with no penalty - excellent service.
If your downstream attenuation is 10.5dB or less, then you are probably a candidate for VDSL.
My advice - go for it (provided that you pass the prequal test for VDSL)

Ah awesome. Thank you for the info. Sorry hear that it didnt work out, but I am glad that you were able to get a rollback. Further enforces FireEngines comment about it.
My current speeds sit at 1048kbp/s upstream and 14259 kbp/s downstream. My attenuation is at 4db upstream and 12db downstream... going on what you mentioned, I may be in the same boat as you?

I had very similar Attenuation as you have and my ADSL>VDSL sync went from 14950/970 to 35495/10 and so far I've not had it slow down at all at anytime of the day or night even with my son doing constant skype to his girlfriend in OZ

Thank you! I assume your upload went from 100KB/s to 1MB/s?? (sorry if that is confusing) its just that your second upload number didn't quite tie up with your first, it was less??

it would be 10,000 ish as connection speeds are measured in Mbps

which equals about 1.25 MB/s which is what downloads/file transfers are generally measured in

try not to get the 2 mixed up :)

Just had confirmation that this page is NOT correct and will be revised ASAP Thursday morning. NO difference in performance or priority between our Unlimited and Capped plans.

Apologies but its content was missed in the "post-fair-use-policy" removal update (as that was when we went through and technical confirmed all differences removed, both between Unlimited and Capped plans, as well as between traffic types).

Cool, thanks for the update! Well hopefully 2 good things will come out of this topic, I will get an uncapped VDSL plan that is not limited in anyway, has faster speeds than what I am using now and that I will be happy with it, as well as Orcon's fair use policy, which I think has just become a lot more fair on paper :)

Well the fair use policy just isn't there any more.

sorry for the confusion yes 10 means 10Mbps (Megabits) or 10000Kbps (Kilobits) maybe I should have written it like this instead

14.9/0.97Mbps > 35.4/10.0Mbps that's 2.3 times faster going to VDSL

Ok we have had that FAQ page updated, the new text is:

"Nope! Unlimited is what we're all about, so there's nothing we do to slow down our unlimited customers."

haha understandable :D, so is the technician only coming on the 16th? or is that when you will actually start to use the VDSL?
