KharmaOfChaos: assurance given that the 31-33ms Ping was going to improve on UFB with Snap! but it stayed the exact same way as when we had VDSL with Snap! in Levin as we currently reside in Hastings. This was a huge disappointment as I am an online gamer and every millisecond makes a difference in whether you win the battle or lose it.

latency to where..

I don't quite understand the question but just a bit back story I play FPS games in particular Call of Duty on the Xbox One and are looking for the best possible connection so that I can actually compete against other players who have 1ms - 18ms ping as I simply don't stand a chance with the way my ping is right now. I have covered all avenues accept for the internet connection and sharing my concerns with the Snap! customer service operator I was assured it would be better on UFB but there has been absolutely no change ping wise where as if I do a SpeedTest with the Orcon SpeedTest it gives me 13ms ping constantly which has me confused in more ways than one. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers!

OK.
im not a console gamer, and have not cared to look at if cod uses P2P still on consoles.

but on PC, its dedicated servers (IIRC. have not touched it really since regretting buying it.), based in aus, in auckland your likely to be getting 26~32ms to Sydney, depending on type of connection and such.
the orcon speedtest, do you mean their testing server in auckland? 13ms aint bad given that your in Hastings.

Ild suspect your actually getting pretty good latency there, and this is not going to be reduced. there was likely a slight drop in pings going from vdsl to fibre, but you have also moved from levin to hastings, i wouldnt directly compare.

http://www.pingtest.net/

Do yourself some testing, there is no point saying im getting X ms to the game. that doesnt exactly help with figuring out if your getting a good ping or not.

Im on snap vdsl, 1ms interleavings profile. most of my fps gaming is in csgo, inwhich the servers are generally in sydney. This gives me about a 29ms ping - also note, ping and latency values can be slightly different so the correct term can make a difference..

Latency (Ping) is a measure of the time taken to get a response from a computer / server somewhere. In very rough terms, the further away that server is, the higher the latency (the longer the time it takes for a message to get there and back).

To compare connections, you need to be clear exactly what and where you are pinging. Pinging your modem, might be <1ms, but pinging the other side of the world could take 500ms.

EDIT: Fat fingered spelling

Does CoD have dedicated servers on Xbox One or is it p2p mostly? If dedicated are they hosted in NZ or AU?

Fibre will have lower latency than xDSL on the early hops in the route but if the traffic is going overseas so servers in the AU you may see around the same total latency.

I am simply doing a standard SpeedTest and those are the numbers I am getting constantly with Snap! Can anyone tell me why it shows that I live in Auckland when I do a generic speed test and it pings to an Auckland server as we are based in Hastings and the closest servers are in Napier. Thanks to all for the help so far as I am still on the hunt to improve this connection. Cheers!

GeoIP is often off.

the ip im sitting on lists me as in 3 different locations depending on geodatabase provider.

CoD, atlest on pc (and i understood the same to be on console) moved away from the P2P system. Choopa do their servers, or atlest their AU based ones. no plans for anything NZ

if it is P2P though, @KharmaOfChaos should make sure his ports are open, increase his chance of being host rather than probably someone on a real bad DLM profile on vdsl...

All ports have been configured appropriately but NAT is not the issue even though I can't seem to get my NAT Open on Xbox One unless I use the exposed host option which doesn't seem to be a form of DMZ in the slightest but I looked online for a DMZ option and the page stated that DMZ was not an option for the FritzBox 7390. Cheers!

I have done all of that and it still fails on that count. I changed the settings to Advanced View then I hit the list and the disabled Teredo and it still fails to Open my NAT. Thanks for the suggestions but I have tried everything bar using another modem which we may have to get anyhow in order to have the option of opening our nat in the form of a demilitarised zone. Cheers!
