Hey pdang,

We can arrange for a technician to come and install a VDSL splitter for you through our wholesaler, however this does cost $199 and includes the installation of a new dedicated jackpoint. Our standard VDSL connections do not include this at the present time.

You can certainly arrange to get this switched out privately if you wanted to, often that would end up cheaper.

Thanks,

Ralph ^JOB

Ralph given he already has VDSL, already has a dedicated jackpoint all he needs is the old ADSL filter changed to a VDSL one there is no way you should be changing him $199 for that. its a $30 filter and looking at the pic about 10mins work at most.

Chorus install is a fixed price and single work code - it doesn't matter how long it takes.

Somebody who only takes 20 mins makes averages out the jobs that take a couple of hours.

exactly this.

If only they all actually took their time to do the installation to reasonable quality. the techs that do a rush and/or shobby job make a bad name for the techs who actually will go out of their way.

the point im trying to make is the price and them recommending their service company for a minor job. when it could be done by someone else for under half that.

yes its their service company but come on could give a better recommendation than that.

You do have to be really careful however - I used to be a Call Centre Team Leader / Manager for a differen't ISP and used to dispute some horrendous charges for people who would attempt to install these splitter's themselves.

If Chorus did come out and found that the problem was internal and due to your own doing (this includes a non Chorus specified technician) they charge you about $199+GST (no fault of Chorus Network found fee) plus cost of repair.

To be honest, dealing with Chorus internally from a manager position and disputing fees on behalf of customers really made me want to get out of that position - most of the time the company I worked for covered these, its horrendous and Chorus have no regard for there customers.

Sometimes the awful thing is that the techs that go out just charge on codes so have no idea what the customer will be charged, then they get the blame.

All im saying out of all this is to be careful - but they do over inflate there prices much to heavily.

Hi Guys,

Thanks the advice/feedback each of you have given so far, I appreciate your help.

Ralph - Could you please clarify something for me, if I were to log a fault with 2Degrees for a potential low VDSL sync issue, they arranged a tech to attend site and investigate, and deemed my current filter was the source of the problem. As I have wiring and maintenance included, would this be covered under this contract, where the tech would swap out my current splitter with a VDSL compatible one, to resolve/remedy the issue? Even take another example, if my connection stopped working completely (e.g. no sync) and a tech concluded the splitter was at fault, I would assume (not sure if this is the best word to use) the tech would replace this out given I have a wiring maintenance with my plan, is this correct? I guess my point is, if my splitter is deemed as the source of the issue (regardless if it's a low VDSL sync issue or no sync issue), is this in theory covered under my wiring and maintenance contract? I can understand paying for a completely new splitter install, but since I already had Chorus install a splitter for me a few years back, does this change the situation?

Can you also clarify what is considered as a No Fault Found scenario? I recently called the 2Degrees Helpdesk, and the rep somewhat indicated that if a tech came to house, and deemed my filter was not the issue, I could/would be charged a with a No Fault Found fee. Are you able to elaborate further if this is correct?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

P

A faulty splitter would be replaced free if you had wiring maintenance and it was installed by Chorus / Telecom.

I would not however expect the upgrade of an existing master filter to be covered by wiring maintenance, for the very same reason installation of a master filter is not covered by wiring maintenance.

An ISP has two options with and VDSL2 installation - they can request a full install with master filter, or they can choose it without. Most still provide a full install, however they pay an extra monthy fee to Chorus to cover this. When you reach a point where some providers are providing cheaper pricing due to skipping this, other RSP's are now following in the race to the bottom that is the incredibly slim margin residential internet market.
