I've been on no contract with 2degrees for a while. I haven't seen any good reason to sign - Amazon prime TV or something isn't really valuable as it's a bit rubbish. If they offered existing customers a faster service for signing a contract, without having to call up and ask for something special, I might consider it. Or I might go elsewhere if I felt new customers were being given significantly better deals than I was getting.

vortexnz: Wow ok, fair response - maybe my expectations were unreasonable - just used to Spark / Voda /Power cos historically being quite happy to add another year on the term and trade the lock-in for a better deal.

I stand corrected!

I have respect for someone who can admit they were wrong! Good for you! :)

Potentially a thread name change is in order?

The OP's view is a natural one. I wouldn't consider the OP wrong for having a negative feeling about this, but in practice it is just the way the world works.

Sky subscribers have similarly complained of such tactics for years. And power company customers too.

One can feel exploited by paying full price for many years and being a 'loyal' customer, only to see new customers being rewarded with special offers.

But, live and learn I say.

*sigh*

These aren't "tactics", it's a case of accepting the
Trade offs that come with willingly accepting the terms of a contract.

There is NO skullduggery here, only a misunderstanding.

vortexnz: Pretty frustrated to see 2degrees offering new customers $85/month for unlimited 950/400 fibre - with a $200 joining credit, while I’m locked into a contract under the same terms for $110 per month....

vortexnz: Anyone else in the same boat had any luck talking some sense into 2 degrees or conversely recommendations for a provider who actually values their customers? Like the product, good inter webs, but $25 just seems a bit rich per month above the market rate.

There are ISP's out there who do value their clients who are worth valuing.

You want flat rate 950/400 for $85 per month. You call only $25 more "a bit rich" and claim you want to "talk sense" into 2degrees. I have to break it to you - your business simply isn't worth anything to an ISP.

Clearly new business is important to the ISP when they are happy to accept churn from existing customers for customers that will return no profit for one year on such an attractive contract rate.
