I can`t believe even Orcon have pooled one of their plans, just like Xnet has done with the torrent plan. What`s going on in this country?

If honest work and justice are not enough - we'll get a lawyer.

I have obviously hit a nerve here.

I am blasted for wanting to watch you tube without buffering (not a high traffic load) but I have seen the excessive whinging about the restriction of Bit Torrent traffic by Orcon on this forum. (the use of which significantly affects my enjoyment of the Internet) What does hypocrisy mean???

I approve and am happy with whatever Orcon does to level the playing field for ALL users of the services provided.

I do not care what the small minority of users bleating about bit torrent issues think.

As I said in my last post. I invite you to go to Xtra or anywhere else but Orcon. Go somewhere else and degrade their service.

Then, I am sure that Orcon's service level overall will go up for normal users and they will continue to gain more customers.

If you want a significantly superior service, pay for a commercial service.

Oh no. I forgot, you just want everything at dirt cheap prices even at the expense of other people. (the ME ME ME generation)

HAH!

Well this id like to point out.

Youtube is very much 'wasted' internet bandwidth, you stream the data, and its gone, you want to go watch it another day, you have to re-stream it again. unless your using some kind of Youtube movie downloader your probably 'discarding' more data than your average torrentor.

You whine about a 'degraded' service, well, at least your getting a service, out issue is around a 'denial of service'

Not sure what you guys complaining about, but I'm getting 500+kbps torrents.

Then again, I'm not on that torrent plan, I pay per gb, so I have every right to torrent

are you from the exchange ?

Auckland, 3km from exchange, lol only downloaded one thing since I joined Orcon, twas yesterday at 2pm got 520-540kbps. Was a private tracker.

Outside of peak times, I can happily pull 1600kB/sec on well seeded torrents, or from local http/ftp servers.

Wow im very impressed with the new accounts some people or someone has made and then used to post on this thread. Have you noticed how these new acounts have so few posts. And all the new people here said that they either got good downloading speeds or that p2p is bad and blocking it is ok. And yet there was a whole row of them posting almost right after each other. It almost looks as if someone could have made those accounts and posted here just to disredit the people complaining about this issue. Now im not saying that someone has done that im just saying that its a possibility and i would not listen to them untill they have posted some more. Anyways i support the people complaining on this thread about that p2p being blocked. And if they trully are blocking it or slowing it down to the point of which it interferes with its purpose then THEY HAVE BROKEN THE LAW!

If orcon has done this then they have broken the following acts:
Fair Trading Act
Consumer Guarantees Act - Services

The following parts of the above two acts have been breached:
Services not fit for the purpose
Misleading or deceptive conductUnfair trading practices
Look at these pages for more info:
The Fair Trading Act
The consumer guarantees act

Did you happen to note that in my initial post, in this very thread, I was complaining about torrents being blocked at peak time? :)

Trust me, I've been publicly very vocal about the many issues we've had with our migration to ADSL2, just not on this forum.

Haven't got any torrents running at the moment, but here's actual evidence.

Edit: Auckland CBD, about 1km from exchange or less, sync rate is around 16mbit

I never run torrents in peak times mainly cause the speeds used to suck and they aren't time sensitive so I just set them to come on after 2am usually.

I wanted to see how they would run, so tried on a well seeded torrent that I had used earlier. It couldn't even get started tonight..

I didn't realise things were that bad during peak hours... Pretty crazy.

It is all those bloody people wasting bandwidth on youtube I bet.. I wish they would leave Orcon and go to some other ISP.

Yer lol i coldnt find theire fair usage policy but it looks like they stoped giving out adsl2+ plans in my area. Yer you should ring them up and bug them about how you can access youtube but you cant use utorrent. Just say that you would like a discount because since you can not use your connection as they advertised it. Say that since like 70% of traffic is from p2p, your current service is worth 70%less and that you would like to from now on pay 30% of all the listed prices on their web site. This is because there is a 70% chance that your gona use the data and bandwidth you pay for on p2p and if you can not do that then the products damaged.

LMAO seriously if everyone goes and says that then they will listen.

And say that 70% of trafic is p2p not utube so wth. And wth why are you blocking it and what else could you be blocking that we dont know about. And how do i know youre not lieing? lols im evils

I always have them encrypted as even if your own ISP isn't playing with p2p packets other peers that you are connected to might have iSP's that are so it makes sense to have it on.

However with Orcon they just deprioritize traffic they don't recognise more than likely.

falls into the generic catagory of bandwidth allocation which isnt prioritised as much as p2p
