Linux:

@Spyware This site only has 3G 900Mhz on it

Trust me 2degrees want 4G on it and have tried for a number of years and I got quite a detailed explanation why they can't upgrade the site....

So will the site go dark when 3g is turned off or will they refarm the same freqs to 5g at that time?

That particular site won't exist anymore as it cannot be upgraded. There will be a new site in a different location nearby. It's spectrum will be refarmed.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

Linux: It is not an issue as such it is just how it is when you have multiple technologys in play providing mobile coverage

The sooner 3G is turned off the better

Then people will say they have no 5G coverage. Until 900MHZ is refarmed for 5G.

All they have to do is change it so it says 5G when you're on normal LTE like they did in the US and those people will be saying how much better it is.

@richms

From memory that was Tmobile and AT&t. Makes me wonder how long in NZ before a operator switches to SA 5G.

I'll be the first one to say it (and be that person).

Where I live in ChCh I have 0 5G coverage until I go to the other side of Christchurch, along side some weird CA and handing over issues whilst on LTE. Spark and One NZ effectively blanket the city with 5G.

But I know why, the average layman wouldn't understand or get it. Explaining that for someone who doesn't care and wants their service to work is a waste of time.

You want to go back to the days of your phone costing $250/mth? Then now you know why coverage expansion slows down (but doesn't stop) in between major refreshes.

I understand you want/need an alternate (cellular) connection for redundancy, however I trust you've given WiFi calling a test-out/chance. At the least it may be sufficient as an interim solution if there is a gap between switching off 3G and improving 4G coverage.

My brother lives rural and is on copper-ADSL. He was complaining of missing a lot of calls due to patchy cell coverage. After I showed him how to turn on wifi calling he described the improvement as "life changing". It is pretty frugal on the bandwidth, so he doesn't seem to have saturation issues.

Yeah, I'm sure that I can use WIFI calling as a stop gap if I need to - but (until I had the details from this thread about the POP) I was frustrated that I had no idea what was going on and 2D were giving conflicting advice and being very unresponsive after months of trying to know what was going on/what was going to happen - especially as I had thought the problem only affected my house when looking at the coverage map.  There was also a "Christmas/New Year special deal" I was seriously contemplating.  Based on the information on this forum I'm planning on to sticking with 2D.

YAY.   After a 4 day planned 2Degrees outage I have just gone from 3G+ to 5G (not a Typo - I would have been very happy to get 4g as we are in the wop-wops, but nope, 5g)    This would relate to the tower which is/was (not sure, have not driven past it today) on Bawden Road near Dairy Flat Highway.

Speed tests are quite variable for me depending on where exactly I test from, but Downloads are flying with results ranging from 60 megabit to 147 megabit.  Uploads are between 1.5 and 6.5 megabit.   I'm a very happy chappy.
