Yep I never thought I'd say this but Telecom is looking very good right now. Orcon may have had its day in the sun, with me at least.

@ 7am this morning

Just after 5pm this evening.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was just p2p, etc. But its not, Steam downloads are slow, http is slow, streaming is rubbish, TVNZ on demand sits there buffering every 5 seconds.

Truer words have never been spoken and for 10 bucks less a month and 10GB more than I'm currently getting from Orcon I'm seriously considering Tcom

Same here.  The unstable internet is really a put-off.  Too much problems with Orcon, wonder why the service is deteriorating as time goes by.  You know your internet is bad when even speedtest doesn't load *facepalm*.  Was downloading at 200kb/s peak and sudden drop to 15kb/s and lesser.  Can't even load in 240p on youtube.  Another international link problem as local sites work fine.

Yeah if only the Telecom website wasn't under construction right now I'd be scoping pricing plans.

and so begins another 8 months of telling Orcon they have issues.

Started looking at other ISP's plans today, Telecom isn't looking to bad for once other than they don't have a 100gb data plan.

I ditched Orcon and went back to Telecom a couple of months back after similar issues (wildly variable speeds, 15Mb at the router, 0.3Mbps on a national speed test etc).

Telecom Total Home with 60GB BroadBand, your choice of interleaving on or off and the choice of slow down of overage charges for $10-$20 less than my Orcon 40GB plan was a bit of a no brainer.

Telecom performance has been great. No slow downs, just about full speeds 98% of the time (sometimes dropping to 10Mb at peak times).

Granted I haven't had to use their call centre so can't comment on that and YMMV depending on location etc but for me it was no contest.

Yes I think I will send the obligatory 1 month notice of cancellation to Orcon and go the Telecom way. I see they offer no contract deals too if you want one.
Funnily enough though, last night for some unknown reason I was averaging 13Mbps on speedtest.net and maxing out my upload speed too. Conicidence or has work been done on my line since logging my service request about my poor phonline quality??

After those speeds I'm tempted to stay with them but they only have 1 more chance, if performance drops again then I'm moving suppliers.

I fix stuff!

Well this is what I have this morning it's pretty good still not as good as it could be (B-) instead of A or A+

I'll be checking again tonight and if it slows down to less than 3mbps or worse I'll definitely be change ISP's there's only so much I can put up with for so long
