Thanks Joe, it's definitely online and working now.

I was a little dubious as to how the speed would be, but 1.6MB down is great.

Worth the wait - I still do wish telecommunications connections were "easier" for everyone involved - thanks for the help.

So since my connection was active at midday, the speed was fine until about 5:30pm.

Since then it's got slower, and slower, and slower, and slower.

Speedtest.net started off at 13/14Mb, it's now 1Mb.

I was able to download at 1.6MB, now 200KB.

Buyer beware, peak is crap.

@ uluxus: it may happen to you only but it doesn't mean it happens to everyone.

I've been with Slingshot for almost 3 years and I have not had a single problem with my internet connection.

I can stream video online and download fine day and night.

Try to do the speedtest again tomorrow evening to see if you get the same result ;)

Can the Telecom TG582N modem/router be used with Slingshot? Can the log-in/password be changed with this modem?

cheers

@ hungugu

Somebody correct me if im wrong but Telecom NZ have locked down the settings of the Thomson modem/routers they supply to the customers which means that you are not able to configure the settings.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Thanks Truchu. As far as I know Telecom's Thomson TG585v7 modem/router CAN be used with other ISPs.

Has anyone tried the TG582n?

I know Thomson modems can be use with other ISPs but I think its recent when telecom locked down the settings.

Best to give Telecom a call to see if this is true :P

Hi uluxus,

This is currently a known issue with us that should be resolved by Saturday as we have some hardware being replaced on Friday.

Its not the result of a Slingshot connection rather a fault, in the process of being resolved.

Thanks,
Joe.

Not locked but the UI is a little confusing, you need to go into the connections section and hit disconnect (even though it might not be connected) to get to the UI to enter the username/password.

Hey guys.

The normal problem was slow peak time, but now we're getting constant disconnects throughout the day. I shifted my working hours, so I've been here during the day the past two days. Now we're getting good service until about lunchtime, then very slow speeds and constant disconnects.

It wouldn't even stay connected long enough to let me write and post this - had to wait for it to reconnect.

For all the help you've given me, and the credits you've given me, it just looks like I'm going to have to move providers to someone who can actually offer a reliable connection. Lots of data is one thing, and slow peak time is another, but pretty much unusable internet for 5 hours a day is, I think, my limit.
