depends on the service they're moving to (llu or telecom wholesale), and if the exchange or calling area is different.

The exchange and calling area are definitely the same, as for Telecom wholesale or LLU..... I see on their account
something about MPF access and LLU and a number and under lines description there is a LLU and a UBA number
so I don't know, but I am pretty sure there is no Slingshot gear in our exchange.
In fact our exchange has just been upgraded to ADSL2 2 months ago by Chorus.
I can't find what exchanges Slingshot have unbundled.

try putting the address into the address checker @ slingshot.co.nz and see what bundle pricing you get. If the pricing is cheaper than usual then it's serviced by LLU.

Yes did that and the price is cheaper.
So must be LLU, I can't believe Slingshot have put gear in the Dargaville exchange!
What does that mean and why would my friend not be able to move his number within the same town?
He also complains to me his broadband is crap and he cannot stream youtube and make skype calls anymore, I wonder if that has something to do with it, I recently installed a new modem at his place because he was having lots of disconnects and bad speed, it did not help. I did some speed tests and it was only 3mbit/s about 30% of what I get on Telecom and he's closer to the exchange.
Strange.

Hi techmeister - If your friend is experiencing frequent disconnections, it sounds like there may be a technical problem. Get him to contact me directly and I will arrange for some help.

Yup it's in there, it's been in there since july :)

If he's moving from an address serviced by telecom wholesale or slingshot llu and he's moving to another address serviced by llu then he should be able to keep the number, providing it's within the same calling area. There is a scenario however where he may not be able to, are you able to pm me the address so that I can check to see if that's the case?

Cheers,

Scott

Done

Dargaville only has one calling area, so issue there.

Probably at this stage as he is moving into his new house this weekend he is not going worry about it just yet. It will also depend on whether he can move his phone number to the new house with the Slingshot
connection if not then he is prepared to port the number to Telecom and then move it with them as he has had the number for many years and does not want to loose it.
He said he would look at porting it back to Slingshot after.
I just do not understand why it may have to go like this?
Thanks for the offer will certainly take you up on your help after the move if it is still no good.

Cheers techmeister

Hi - shouldn't need to transfer the number to telecom first. I should be able to arrange a direct transfer manually for you

Could be anything from planned work to a road worker digging up a cable If it's back up and working nothing to worry about let them spend time on actual issues that are impacting customers!

I received a text message at 3:20am this morning saying that my broadband had been connected - it was actually connected 3 weeks ago (and received the same message then), are you guys having problems with your systems?

Edit: I forgot to mention I received an email around the same time too, so I don't think it's a delay with the mobile network.

The system is completely automated could I grab your account and I could look at the logs see what went out and when see if I can find out why.

Don't think theres any delays, 2 weeks delayed sounds like some process had not completed yet on your account and last night at 3:20am it magically fixed its self sounds like a new bill to me.... But 3am.... come on... Sleep time not a good time to be woke, I understand your pain I get it on-call.

Thanks
Bevin

I've received a message from AdrianD saying I got switched to EUBA last night so maybe that's what triggered it. It's all good, we're having a baby in about 4 weeks so I probably need to get used to being woken up in the middle of the night :)
