Should be something like this plugged in to an outlet somewhere in the house to power it.

There isn't unless it's inside the roof which I'm assuming is unlikely.

Then you need to get one, or remove the amplifier. They don't work unpowered.

The specs for that amplifier:
Power Supply (PSK#) - PSK or KPS 06 or 08

Weird, people who installed it must have taken the power unit or whatever... works bypassing the unit.

Getting Signal Level 26, Signal Condition 100. Is this all good or should I buy a power supply for that unit? Picture looks fine etc.. Will have to do some new routing etc to bypass the "amplifier" indefinitely.

Signal level is not great but the quality is good. If it all works OK then leave it. If you get problems in bad weather then consider installing a new masthead amp with f connectors. The old saddle and clamp are not very good at UHF although it may be worth trying it with a new power supply plugpack.

Alright thanks a lot! The unit up there is a MHU24GE which looks like $25 for a power supply for it. Old owner who installed it must have taken it with them.

so assuming one of these will work? http://electronicaccessories.co.nz/cart_product9574-1-1748.html

Is it best to use a joiner eg this: http://www.supremeantennas.co.nz/products/images/joiner.jpg

or put a screw head on both ends and then use http://jaycar.co.nz/products_uploaded/product150_2689.jpg

Provided the coax is rg6 go with the f connectors and joiner. Much better than the other one as the inner conducter will be totally shielded.

Did you remove the VHF antennas out of the setup? as they will conflict and disrupt the performance if they are in any way connected.

It's completely disconnected wiring wise. I haven't removed it off the roof tho, no.

Is the antenna really pointing downwards as the photo seems to show?

It looks as horizontal as the other aerials viewed pointing away from the photographer.

Remove them from the roof. As well as being unsightly they can also interfere with the reception pattern of the UHF.

Probably just bad photo, from this one it doesn't look like it.
