It's completely disconnected wiring wise. I haven't removed it off the roof tho, no.

Remove them from the roof. As well as being unsightly they can also interfere with the reception pattern of the UHF.

Alright, I'll do this when I go back to fix up the wiring etc :)

But the big vhf may be needed for fm so check that your stereos are not on the same antenna feed before you rip it down.

And put the Stand off arm onto it and mount the antenna off to the side of the pole. As it is now , the pole will interfear with the antenna when mounted vertically.

No it won't because the mounting pole is behind the reflector therefore can have no effect. Mounting off to the side will cause an interference effect.

I disagree

The pole itself being in the same polarity as the antenna will pickup and reflect some signal. Which may upset a fringe reception situation. Anyway best to see what the other persons reception is like once they pull the old antenna out of the way and they get a power supply for the amp.

memske: Getting Signal Level 26, Signal Condition 100. Is this all good or should I buy a power supply for that unit? Picture looks fine etc.. Will have to do some new routing etc to bypass the "amplifier" indefinitely.

Signal level is not great but the quality is good. If it all works OK then leave it. If you get problems in bad weather then consider installing a new masthead amp with f connectors. The old saddle and clamp are not very good at UHF although it may be worth trying it with a new power supply plugpack.

I just was thinking about this. Got it all connected and getting break ups on channel 1 mainly during rain etc.. The actual UHF balun? (is that the right word haha) is a screw connector as well not a F con. It seemed pretty poor when rewiring it as the old wire was actually bent around the screw? I rewired it straight.

Tossing up between getting the power supply for the amp or just getting this: https://www.1-day.co.nz/products/AAPFCN042# and chucking it up. Have no idea what the current UHF aerial is rated to dB wise but this would surely fix the problems as it would give me a new aerial + a decent new cord. I have no crimping or compression tools so water proofing (properly) new outdoor cable would prove troublesome and probably just as expensive after buying said tools.

JUST NOTICED, if I wiggle or even sometimes after unplugging and replugging back in the RF M-M cable from the wall socket to the TV/Freeview box (have mine here to test) it will break up and sometimes go to 0 signal quality while remaining at 8 signal strength? Tried multiple cables. This makes me think it's the wall bracket(have reseated etc)/the cord from the roof to the wall bracket causing some sort of interference or something?

Right now it's sitting at.

CH 37 = 10 Signal Quality - 8 Signal Strength
CH 35 = 1-2 Signal Quality - 7-8 Signal Strength

Just randomly got this up to SQ 9-10 - SS 7-8

CH 33 = 4 Signal Quality - 8 Signal Strength

What the? Is it supposed to be this touchy with the RF cord etc? Surely not?

Sounds borked.

Wall plates with screw terminals suck so I would expect the problem there also the actual socket may be spread out from dodgy plugs in it.

Borrow a crimper and use an f connector pass thru then a pre made f to pal plug.

No need for a crimper, screw on F connectors are easy to use and do a perfectly good job

You can even make your own F-PAL leads pretty simply. Here's what I use:

Screw on connectors can't be used outdoors tho correct? So only use them on this side of things?

Does anyone on this forum know of anyone on the Eastern seaboard of the Coromandal Peninsular with DVB-T reception .I have spotted a handful of UHF antennas pointed towards Auckland and Te Aroha on the roofs of holiday homes around Whitianga and Whangamata but they may have been put up for Sky when they used UHF before they went to digital/satellite.
