Just got to hope they pay the additional for the HD content then!

Some of the retro movies during the week they show are rather cool. Better in HD/5.1 mind.

No sign of any placeholders or changes on DTT this week ahead of the change over. They don't really have enough capacity on the current TVNZ multiplex unless they move their +1 channels elsewhere.

The MTS Multiplex has plenty of spare capacity and there is the Kordia Test Mux running with a single channel.

No idea how they do it, but I suppose an appropriate term is "they stopped and restarted the stream with new resolution and bitrate". Just fired up the telly to watch a bit of sportsball and I didn't have to do anything to my tvheadend setup, just naturally started at 1080i.

Not whinging!

Freeview HD only guys. Should just switch to HD. no re-tuning needed but if not seeing it then give a rescan.

Agreed! Duke, TVNZ 1 and TVNZ 2 are all running at ~5.5 Mbps for their video bit-rate. That's a long way from the ~10 Mbps that TV One and TV2 started with when Freeview was launched! I'm sure encoders have improved as h.264 has matured, but in my opinion it's unlikely that the picture quality now is really equivalent to what it was previously.

@TVNZ If you're listening: quality over quantity, please!

What frequency is that?

Auckland only?

Duke TV is broadcasting 1080i/Dolby Digital from Sugarloaf. Nice.

I wonder why Maori TV is 1080i/HE-AAC?

Kordia are on 522MHz in Auckland

If TVNZ moved the +1 channels to the MTS multiplex they'd just about squeeze 3 HD channels in based on modern encoders etc.

So as part of the switch the HD TVNZ activated an additional AC3 feed on PID 403 and changed the resolution of the existing Video PID 252 upto 1080i.

It does mean we have 3 HD , 2 SD and some info/data channels on the TVNZ multiplex and they are planning an additional channel for the commonwealth games.
