timmmay: They probably should get on top of it. Previously I've had a really good opinion of Samsung equipment, but now I'd probably look elsewhere next time, Motorola probably.

Motorola, are you serious? I could understand HTC but not Motorola.

I've had a number of Samsung phones and never had an issue (fingers crossed) must have just been lucky

I like the idea of the Razr Maxx, but I've never looked into reliability. I don't want any of the vendors that put their own UI on top of Android.

Samsung have handled the S3 SDS issue from the start and have instructed the carriers/retailers to shut up/plead ignorant and quietly replace the mob no questions asked.

Now that the S4 is nearing release there's been a change of tact by Samsung. There's a concerted effort lead by Samsung to empty the shelves of S3's to the extent that all the carriers and retailers are offering a free tablet with each S3 sold.

There was never a chance of a mass S3 recall when there are millions of the jolly things still on the shelves worldwide.

You watch, getting the mob replaced now will be almost impossible, the default Samsung position via the carriers/retailers will be "sorry that's water damage"

is this just your opinion or do you actually know this for a fact?

It used to be a budget brand, making the type of tv you find in kmart as the bottom of range tv. But they improved things in the 2000's with their new stylish designed LCD TV's and they became a leading brand. I am not sure if with these phones, they are pushing features ahead of reliability and whether the s3 is a bit of a t-break model.

I have two big Samsung LCD TVs, microwave, and maybe other stuff in the house. It all works fine. My brother had trouble with a Samsung computer that they eventually replaced after it was serviced about five times, but it took a bunch of work.

Give it a rest. One batch, of one model, has a known fault that a few people are having issues with getting repaired. The world is hardly crashing down around Samsung.

If it's only one batch of one model then that's really irrelevant in the wider scheme of things, but really annoying for the people who own them.

Totally agree, I was simply commenting on comments that it was a Tea break model were over the top.

The fault is known by who though? Not by some of their repair agents, nor is there an official statement about the problem.

I was just commenting on my own experience. I have also had another samsung mobile model that failed after about 8 months, and got a refund on it after 2 repairs didn't fix it, replaced it with a reliable nokia. Also had a samsung LCD monitor that failed after a couple of months, and ended up getting a refund after it was returned with the same fault. Also have a samsung freezer that had a fan in it fail on it after about 6 months, although that was eventually fixed after a few months waiting for the part. So my own experience of the brand hasn't been that great. I don't think I have had anything apart from S3 that hasn't needed repair from that brand.
But I do like my samsung S3, although it isn't as reliable as my old iphone nor the same build quality or battery life, and kies is terrible. My point was that they do pack in a lot of cutting edge features that gets consumer attention, where those features may not be as reliable as they could be hence the model T reference where it is cutting edge but may not be the most reliable. The term has more than one meaning, I didn't mean 'Tea break' , as obviously a lot of time had gone into developing the new model with the latest features. With apple they used to tend to release those cutting edge features later on, when they have ironed out most of the issues.

As you can see, rooted phone will have the status set differently.

Technically, I have never seen the "Current Binary = Custom and System Status = Official" on an S3 before.
When you rooted your phone the System Status will change to "Custom" or "modified" and when you do a factory reset of the phone then it will say something like this:

CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts) <==== System has been modified
CURRENT BINARY: Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Modified <========= Flashing new firmware on top of rooted phone.

Or
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts) <===== Because it is rooted once/modified and not yet reset using TriangleAway
CURRENT BINARY: Official <==== Once factory formated
SYSTEM STATUS: Official <==== Factory formated + reflashed firmware

So have you try flashing firmware with Odin again first to reset the phone OS? Usually it will fix most brick issue. Never had any problem with my S2s and S3s. Even when it stuck in bootlogo or bootloop, I always revived it back.

To be fair to Warehouse Stationery, I initially willingly took up the mantle with Samsung customer care myself after the decline warranty from the service agent, because it seemed pointless to try to relay a reasonably technical story via a completely non-technical stationery store worker - but then I was also assuming that by doing so I would be engaging in a two-way conversation with a reasonable person and that as a result it would just be resolved. So this morning I gave Samsung Customer Care (it grates me to call it that) two business days to resolve it before I take them to the Disputes Tribunal and Fair Go - with links to this and other relevant forum threads included. Then I forwarded same to Warehouse Stationery, stating that I expected them to go into bat for me as at the end of the day, if this does go to Disputes Tribunal, the liability to me as a customer actually rests with the store. All credit to Warehouse Stationery, they rang me that afternoon and replaced it out of stock, with a new warranty, and have agreed also to get my old phone back and let me send it to a recovery service to see if anything can be retrieved, and they will fight Samsung for warranty later. Meanwhile, from Samsung, I've received in response: another automated message.

OK - An update - One whole month - yes, a MONTH, after sending my phone away, Warehouse Stationery have finally received it back - unfixed, and they're still refusing warranty. Here's to Warehouse Stationery - and ultimately 2 Degrees, for coming to the party. So now I'm just left wondering,
(1) just how long will this new phone last and will it suffer the same fate? And more importantly,
(2) how many others have Samsung shafted because they didn't know how to kick up a stink?

Sadly, it's the last time I'll be buying Samsung. I still like their kit, but I have zero faith left in their honesty or customer service.

8. Samsung Q1 media player
9. Samsung WDSomething 12megapixel camera
10. Samsung Galaxy S2
11. Samsung Galaxy S3

After dealing with Samsung Customer Care in Albany, their a) attitude, b) totally over the top repair times - I will not be buying the Galaxy S4 (this makes me sad) or any other Samsung product again.

I am not going to allow myself to be a future victim of this arrogant organisation.

Perhaps they feel like NZ is not a large enough market to worry about?
