calebperry2: Cheers for that, so is there a way to get the phone working on Telecom 4G?

Wait for a future Vodafone approved update for the device.

This is the best advice for you. If you take Vodafone sim with 4G enabled, you should be able to access their 4G network. Have a look at Galaxy Note 3 thread. This has something to do with Samsung disabling 4G for Telecom because their 4G network hasn't launched yet at that time. Future update should get this enabled.

If you must get 4G now, return the phone and get one from Télécom or have look at Xda forum and flash with different firmware. You may lose warranty...

I have Galaxy Note 3 from 2Degrees. 4G will work with Vodafone SIM but not with Telecom. I can't be bothered with 4G at the moment since it is not yet available in Tauranga (telecom network). Vodafone on the other hand has 4G but crappy coverage. I'll stick with Telecom for now.

as John has already said, why would voda release an update so it can be used on Telecom.

ok so it voids Samsung warranty it doesn't void the CGA unless it can be shown subsequent flashing caused the damage, why people get hung up on manufacturers warranties is beyond me.

His phone will get Voda updates but its the Telecom ones he needs and to do that he needs to flash telecom firmware, either that or switch back to Voda

NikT:
lofreq: so the answer is that, 2degrees needs to push out a firmware update that tells the CSC to enable the 4G radio onboard. until that happens, the phone is doing as instructed and keeping the 4G radio disabled. either you flash a new CSC to enable it manually (and run all the risks of flashing therein) or wait indefinitely for 2degrees to switch to 4G, and have an update sent out to their customers changing the official 2degrees CSC.

experts please correct me if im wrong in this summary? if this is accurate then technically "telecom store", "telecom email" and "PB Tech" gave the most accurate (if disjointed) information... :)

The CSC has profiles per operator. So for NZ, 2degrees has a profile, Vodafone has a profile, and Telecom has a profile, all contained on the same phone. In this case, the profile is enabling or disabling 4G depending on whether the operator had told Samsung to enable it for them at the time that particular revision of the CSC shipped. LTE is not disabled system-wide, only per-operator. If you put a Vodafone SIM in the device, the LTE option will appear.

The next software updates will presumably include more recent revisions of the NZ CSCs in which 4G is enabled for Telecom's operator profile.

afaik NikT is from Vodafone NZ

Thanks everyone for your help and advice.

I'm going to wait for Vodafone to put through another update that hopefully has the updated CSC profile for Telecom in it - not sure how long that will be though.

If it still doesn't go then, my warranty will have expired anyway so will flash the phone then.

Cheers

I doubt it will ever happen. Honestly 4G isn't a big gain, it uses more battery and increases your speed from 20Mbps down to 50Mbps down - give or take. No difference in practice, given phones don't download large amounts of data very often. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm on 4.2.2 and didn't have 4G, even after getting the 4G SIM. I followed a tip on the Echoe ROM FAQ about editing some file to get 4G working. Not really sure how I managed it to be honest, edited a file, changed a setting, put the file back to how it was, and 4G kept working.

More like 10Mbps on 3G to 50Mbps on 4G, but anywho ;)

OP, you definitely won't be seeing Voda release an update to allow Telecom 4G. Your only option is to get a little technical and install a different modem/rom. As mentioned, this isn't for the faint of heart.

I've posted instructions many times if you're wanting to turn it into the Telecom S4, follow at your own risk:
