GPS Audio Issues

Hi all. A little feedback on the Navigon navigate software.

First, the accuracy in drive mode is nothing less than outstanding. An example - I set my destination to a particular intersection and was alerted to its approach, as you'd expect. I was in a 5 car queue stopped at the lights and when the lights went green, I got a "You have reached your destination" advisory as i entered the intersection itself. Absolutely bang-on! Very impressive. Haven't attempted a walking test, but will do so this afternoon when I'm in the city. I'll get it to direct me to a Starbucks for a well deserved caffeine hit. Wink

Secondly, however, there seems to be a bug in the audio. I have the radio on the SGS going and when the Navigon turn-by-turn voice talks at me, then radio mutes, as you'd expect. Unfortunately, the mute ends before the TBT voice message completes, meaning that the 'distance to go' part of the message is drowned out by the radio.

If somebody else with Navigon could test that as well, it'd be appreciated. If it's just something to do with my setup, then I'll try changing stuff to resolve it but if others have the same issues, then I'll file a bug report with the developers.
Meantime, I'll revert to using the car radio when I'm also using the GPS.

Thanks in advance for any feedback folks.

Cheers,
R2D2

Hey ArtooDetoo I have the same issue with the audio cutting off when music is playing alongside it. I have also noticed it isn't entirely accurate in some places as it told me to take the second exit from the roundabout when it was an intersection at one point and makes similar mistakes.

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

Yo lokhor, thanks for the reply. Two of us with the mute issue is definitely a bug. I'll drop a message to the dev, although my German is abysmal. Babelfish way come in handy... :D

I have yet to find an issue with the accuracy, although I'm sure it's just a matter of time. Nobody's perfect. Did you happen to notice if the map itself was mis-marked with a roundabout indicated, or if the cartography was correct and the software misread it? If you can remember the location specifics, I'll add them to the bug report.

Feel free to PM me if you want to keep your location confidential.

Thanks again.

The first issue I have with audio on this product is that I usually drive (and navigate) with the handset connected to my bluetooth audio; then the TBT comes though on both the handset speaker and the bluetooth audio, with the BT lagging the handset enough to be annoying.

Secondly the speech from the handset is often stuttering, even though the BT audio is not.

I usually am playing a podcast at the same time and I can't say I've noticed the issue you guys are describing (although I can't say its not happening).

Paid attention this time, the podcast (playing via BT) is not paused by the TBT voice, it just talks over the top of it. Oh well.

Three out of three is conclusive. Thanks for the update n4. Looking into whether or not there's a workaround for this issue other than using Navigon without music running simultaneously. If it was a paid app, it would be a bummer and a deal-breaker I think. But for free? I can live with it and no doubt there'll be an update sooner or later.

This is great!, thanks.   So google nav and navigon all together.. just want android needed down here :)
Hopefully tomtom will join the party soon too..

I am curious though, how come you cant buy navigon down here? you search for it normally and it doesnt even show up... is is meant to be for sale here or not?

anyway looks nice, i bought co-pilot a while back, big mistake.. serious issues there and their support is horrific..

navigon looks far nicer..

I used copilot to navigate around both north and south islands and found it very good. I didn't use the POI functions, but directions were solid.

If anybody else has had p!ss poor output through their car's aux input from the SGS, post and I'll write up my fix for it. Not that there aren't other workarounds such as the probably much better pre amps that you can buy. But my solution, stolen as it is, is free and works for me at any road.

I'd only ask if there is evidence that there actually is a problem with impedence switching (ie: impedence switching is non existent on the SGS in my experience). It's somewhat annoying that you can't use your SGS as an MP3 player without it blowing the guts out of the phone's speaker or deafening you when using earbuds after switching from your car audio usage.

I suppose I could blame the car stereo makers for their part, except they seem to work to very acceptable standards. But I'm not a digital audio nut, so whadda I know?

So if your SGS doesn't deliver the audio volume goodness through your voiture's in-built audio, post here and I'll share my workaround. And of course, should this be old news and everybody has sorted this to their satisfaction, then don't read the previous rant and have a jolly good night.

Laughing

Cheers,

Edit: Clarity, something sorely lacking in my posts and discovered usually seconds after the edit window for a post has expired.

Hi,

Yeah it looked great which is why I bought it.  The problem is,  I live in the north shore of auckland.
When I go to enter an address in copilot it asks for the city, you enter auckland, it then won't find a single street on the north shore, all north shore addresses are apparently not part of auckland.. nor part of north shore city.. Their city is their suberb apparently.. which kind of is a major bug/issue. a lot of times im not sure of the exact suberb, its just plain stupid and most of the time i want to use it around the shore so its basically useless.

apart from that im sure its a nice app. :)

from memory i'm sure there is a way around that problem where you don't have to enter/know the city. I don't have it around currently to check. but if you want to know how send me a PM and I will have a quick play. I might be wrong though  because we had several different GPS units going at the same time :)

If you know let me know, their customer service took 3 weeks to answer my email about it and then it was just to reply that they would let the map suppliers know.   i then asked about refund but they never answered.
from that I would never recommend anyone to buy it.

is it possible to just use New Zealand or North Island for the 'city'. Can't quite remember, but I'll have a hunt for you and see if I'm right or wrong.

Try uninstalling Navigon. Use the market app to locate your downloads, select Navigon from the list, select uninstall and let it do its thing. Reboot your phone. Put on some music and ring yourself from your landline to test.

If that hasn't sorted it, download Navigon again and re-install it. Make sure you're on wifi as it'll download the maps again.

If there was a problem with the original install, often an uninstall and re-install will sort it.

Let us know how you fare.
