Linuxluver:It's representative of the level of (in)accuracy of the Galaxy S GPS. Even 15 minutes later it rarely got as close as 10 metres...and usually more like 20 or 30...as the bubble says.

This test isn't exhaustive or definitive.....but it is a good indication of what I have been seeing for several weeks.

I'd be trying different firmware on your phone. My Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S) completes this test perfectly from inside my house while down a story from the roof. I've also been using it with Navigon Mobile and it works freaking awesomely.

Backcountry Navigator is spot on (Galaxy s 2.2.1) and it uses NZ topographical maps. very good for tramping. It cost's a little ($13NZD approx) Check out the free trial.

Maps can be cached prior to entering a place with no data (can take a while if you want full zoom, use wifi)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

I have tomtom on iph4 which is accurate with twisty rds etc, compare that to a android equivalent app.

Dont you think thats helpful sittingduckz?

I use the My Tracks app on my Samsung galaxy 5, i5500 and its freakishly accurate.

Tomtom tracks twisty roads because they exist and it won't let you go offroad properly. any gps will do that. an offroad app that tracks well is different.

@muppet, I took no offense and appreciate theres a wide variety of knowledge and experience across any forum, and they way we often communicate stuff doesn't necessarily reflect that very well. Anyways I went a little off topic, but thanks for your comment...
