I cant seem to get clockworkmod recovery to work on the ideos because there is no option to choose that phone. So im stuck on 2 lol I would love some help and Im sorry for being such a nuisance but this first timer needs some geekzone love
Hi there, this addressed the issue of there being no option of the IDEOS X5. Please be aware that this is only advice, any modification you make to your X5 is done knowing the full risks associated. I.e. Don't blame me if you screw it up :D

Also ensure your phone is already rooted, I use permanent root from z4root.
2. Ensure that there are no Huawei rom updates on your SD-Card in the dload folder and unplug the phone from your computer - i.e. plug your phone into your computer and check there are none.
3. Download a file called "recoveryv4.zip" (5.04 MB) from here http://www.multiupload.com/DQGL84P3A5 (Download to your computer - Phone does not need to be connected again yet)
4.Boot to bootloader mode by pressing the up and down volume keys and pressing the power button (Hold these all down at once, after a while the phone vibrates, you can release the buttons then) This will then boot to show a plain violet/purple screen
5. Connect the phone to your computer. In windows it will automatically mount one mass storage device which corresponds to the /cust_backup folder on your phone. If your OS supports EXT3 it will mount multiple devices, look for the one with an images directory and this is the device to use.
6. If you open the connected phone storage you should be able to see a folder called Images or something like that.
7. In the images directory rename recovery.img to something else (ie. recovery.bak) and then copy the new recovery image (which you downloaded) in its place. - I made a backup of the original recovery.img before I altered it just in case.
8. Unmount the mass storage device to ensure all cached writes are completed and then disconnect from the computer. Exit bootloader mode by pulling out the battery.
That's it, you have now installed a version of clockwork recovery that will allow you to backup your rom before installing customs ones.
If you need to do a backup or install custom roms you will want to boot to recovery, you do this by: Boot to recovery by holding the volume up and power buttons to turn the phone on - The backup will backup to a SD card, so make sure you have one installed.
These are not my instructions - Just adapted from the folks at XDA forums, Full recognition to them for all of the work that they do. Check out the X5 dedicated forums if you have more x5 root questions.

No problem, yeah I tried that one out last night, i'm already using Launcher Pro and do not need the ability to wifi tether either yet. Decided I would be better off on the stock rom for now so used updated rom off Huawei site (http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/downloadCenter.do?method=list&flay=software&directoryId=20&treeId# search for u8800) reinstalled all of my apps from titanium backup now looks the same as it did before. I did do a backup with clockwork recovery before, but decided I wanted to use the generic rom instead for now.
I'm really waiting for CM6 or CM7. Vatoloco over at XDA forums is working on this at the moment (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1062863) Although he says it it still not a complete rom to run your phone off, so don't flash it just yet.

I'm not sure sorry, i've gotten as far as I have already by reading a lot on XDA forums and here, and a bit of guess work. Once you reinstalled the stock ROM you'd have to root again and once again change the files in order for clockwork recovery to work (Well I did) once I had done that I decided that I wanted to redo the layout of my apps and everything anyway so I started from scratch - Just reinstalled the apps I actually use from titanium backup and also used titanium backup to remove apps I don't use from the stock ROM such as twitter etc.
It was good to have a go on the B160 ROM- Left it installed overnight and did have a play around. It definitely has more features than B133 and does run smoothly, but I didn't need the new features that it did have so decided to just wait until there were a few more ROMS out there to try. I will just stick with stock for now, no particular reason. After installing stock ROM my phone is now B135, I don't think there is a difference in performance between B135 and B133, just this rom is a worldwide one maybe?
This is my understanding of things anyway, please anyone correct me if i'm wrong (I probably am!)
I've seen Langers1972 from this forum has commented on XDA so he might chip in here with advice, or others of course :D Seems we're all learning a bit.
