eljefe: I have a Telecom Galaxy GT-I9000T on Eclair.
Kies does not recognise it, it never has. I copy stuff onto it via Linux.
I dont want to ROOT it, its my wifes phone.
I would like to upgrade to 2.3
Is there a reason why Kies does not recognise it? I have removed all the music off it because I had been told there could be issues with file names that are too long or having too many mp3's on it.
Is this all urban legend or based on fact?
I also turned off my Anti Virus software.
I get the really helpful dialog box:
Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio)
mode. Current Connection mode not supported by Kies.
Any ideas?
I cant be the only person with this problem.

I got a Samsung Galaxy S WIFI 5.0 it didn't have a MicroSD in it and couldn't get the SGS to talk to Kies (Windows was saying MTP USB driver failed installing correctly).
I tried the below AND IT WORKS!! :)
1) unmount internal sd (I do not use an external one)
2) format internal sd
3) restart phone
4) connect (Kies was running on my PC, no need to restart PC or anything)
When I did this, the MTP Application stopped closing on my phone and it connected quite fast. After that, Windows installed successfully the MTP driver and Kies saw the device after few more seconds.
I think it is a MTP fail in windows not connecting to kies I spent a good 4 hours battling with it and this did the trick I now have kies connecting and transfering movies and music hope this helps :)
