P1n3apqlExpr3ss: So I did a little idle battery life test, 3G data on, wifi and auto-sync off. Went from 77 to 72 in 6.5 hours, and dropped a further 3% after a few minutes of use

Comparing that to the S3... its not good. S3 dropped literally 1 percent in 6 hours with no silly drop afterwards. Though it should be worth saying airplane mode was on but wi-fi and autosync was on

The One X has a problem with reading battery percentages in standby - it'll update shortly after you wake the phone and then you see the actual drop...

It is weird, sometimes I get stellar battery life even with heavy use and 3+ hours screen time. Then sometimes I barely use the phone and it takes a huge hit. I hope telecom release 1.28 soon and then I can get a better feeling for the performance.

I just picked up a One X after not being happy with my S3, and I have to say I am loving this device a lot more. Because I was so focused on S3 I didn't pay much attention to One X. But I see lots of comments about software updates. Can someone quickly fill me in, I checked mine and it is 1.126.781.2 and says I am up to date. Will Telecom be releasing a newer version or can I get it another way? And what will a newer version bring? many thanks

Hi IronH,

Telecom are testing a new update currently that will be released to your phone. It apparently improves the speed of the phone (more fluidity in response and removes lag) and also is supposed to improve battery life.

Other option is to root your phone and install a custom rom. If you are happy with the device, you may as well just wait as I would expect telecom to push the update in the next couple of weeks.

awesome, thanks caldazar, haven't noticed any lag yet which is surprising as I noticed some stuttering on S3.

Got sick of waiting for Telecom to provide an update, so just unlocked my phone via HTCDev.com and rooted it. Installed Android Revolution HD 6.0.0 which is based on 1.29.401.11.

It'll be interesting to see how it performs in the next few days.

Not scientific but judging over the last 2.5 hours testing of 1.29, it looks like I'll be able to get about 5 hours screen time on a full charge - that is with wifi + 3g enabled. I'll try switch to only 3g tomorrow and see how that goes.

I'm assuming you mean 5 hours of constant screen time?

Yes. I'm referring to the screen time reported in hours by android. I didn't have a full charge when I started testing the new rom (charge was about 73%) - battery usage is now at 40% and screentime is 1 hour 56 minutes.

If that is consistent then, it'll be easy to breach 5 hours screen time. I've been using it pretty heavily, so moving to normal usage should let me hit the 5 hour mark.

Obviously not as good as the s3 so far but I guess this phone does have a smaller battery and probably a less efficient CPU.

How long is average screen on time with 1.26? Haven't had my One X long enough to know, but seeing as Noelleeming have the the Sony CPELS 2000mAh portable battery for $30 I picked one up so I don't get caught out.

Battery life from today. Most of the day with wifi+3g (an hour on 3g only).

I think with light usage it'll be easy to get 2 days on a single charge.
