I have to chuckle about your last comment concerning when the new firmware will roll out. I'm still waiting to go from 1.26 to 1.28 with TNZ! Flashing a ROM is starting to loom large in my thinking now, and I think I' may take my business away from TNZ for being too tardy with their updates.

I have to chuckle about your last comment concerning when the new firmware will roll out. I'm still waiting to go from 1.26 to 1.28 with TNZ! Flashing a ROM is starting to loom large in my thinking now, and I think I' may take my business away from TNZ for being too tardy with their updates.

So now I am seriously looking at doing the htcdev bootloader unlock, custom recovery/custom rom thing on my TNZ One X. I am aware of the warranty considerations of loading custom firmware.
What I am wondering is, are there any other potential pitfalls to following this route? As far as I concerned the support inquiries I have made to both TNZ and HTC have left me less than impressed and the most help I have had in the past has been from GZ or XDA.
At the moment my phone has good reception and outstanding GPS performance. Are either of these related directly to the 1.26 Telecom XT ROM? Or would these things be unaffected by flashing something like ARHD? It appears, from the HTC website that the unlocking procedure doesn't allow access to the radio. If the current ROM is optimised for NZ operations would going to a ROM based on a WWE release be inferior. Both the previous HTC phones I have owned have been imports, and as such there was nothing to lose flashing another WWE.

^ 1.26 Telecom radio is the same as the 1.26 EU radio which the ROMs are based on, so radio would be unaffected. Not sure about GPS but any difference wouldnt be noticeable.

Thanks for the response. I was pretty impressed when I first switched the One X on that it got a GPS lock within seconds and had a much better SNR (according to GPS Test) than my old DesireHD. It operates effectively in my car and even in an aeroplane (in airplane mode of course!) The fact it locked so quickly made me wonder if it considered NZ to be 'home' and so knew which satellites to look for. I don't want to lose that capability, but really want better battery life and to get rid of the annoying 3 dot menu bar on non-ics optimised apps. Any recommendations on a ROM? ARHD looks like being my first port of call as I quite like Sense. Although I have dabbled with Apex Launcher and as soon as HD Widgets finishes with Beta I will probably use it again.

Hey

Does anyone think that i can return the telecom htc one x and get a refund now if i have used it since launch date ?
the UI keeps crashing more until i restart the phone (i rarely turn it off ). i would rather get a non-carrier one just so the crashing stops (after update).

. i dont want the warranty to be voided so no custom ROMs

The first thing to try is a factory reset. It will wipe everything on your phone do backup first. It will be the first thing that is asked if you try to return it. The CGA gives a repair, replace or refund option to the vendor for faulty goods. Since your handset is still stock I would say you have a case to call the software faulty, but I can just about guarantee they will go for the 'repair' option.

Pretty sad Telecom marred this awesome phone with their absolutely atrocious update schedule.

This phone is pretty awesome with ARHD. I can only imagine it will get better with time.

If any of you with a Telecom One X are worried about the boot loader unlock. I sent mine back unlocked for a refund with no issues.

It was hardware yeah, you're right it shouldn't be an issue but it is with some companies.

Right, a recent conversation with a telecom person has convinced me its time to root and flash. There won't be a telecom update soon, and any further updates won't be any faster....
I don't want a custom Rom, I want a stock, clean HTC Rom so I get updates fast. Any tips as to what I should use?

Yeah, really don't want to go custom ROM yet. Really do just want pure HTC Android. Same as If I had bought from Clove for example

Disappointing. As a few small things are really starting too really annoy me. What a great way to ruin the opinion of what should be a great phone.
