Hi All

First post , hopefully you can help and that it's not covered anywhere obvious elsewhere...

I have MySky and want to get multiroom for my bedroom. i am in process of looking for led tv to go on wall w / wall bracket (any recommendations greatly accepted-- i currently have samsung 51inch in lounge so probably would prefer another samsung , but smaller and maybe a smart tv!??)

I understand that it's $0 to install and $25 monthly payable for one month , after that you can cancel but still have the freshly installed connection- that is my understanding.

if a powerpoint is required in the area of installation, is that covered in the cost of installation? also if i want the wires that connect the box /aerial to tv to not run down wall, can that be covered as part of installation?

just wondering if anyone else knows the answers.

The cost of installation assumes you have power source to connect to. You provide the power at your cost and the guy who does the install is unlikely to be qualified to do it for you. When you get 'free installtion' you get the bare bones. If you want anything special, like wiring inside of a wall you can expect to pay for that, if they'll do it at all.

Plan ahead.

thanks, so if i want cables from tv to power source and sky to power source etc to run internally, would it be a good idea to have some holes in wall opened up for when sky guy comes and then get the other guy i hire to use those holes?
i dont know how else to word that but hope it makes sense...

Free installation is the bare minimum to get it working.

It is not reasonable to expect a sky installer to have to do anything inorder to get power to the installation. I know when they used to install modulators they would "install" a 4 way powerstrip to power the skybox and the modulator as part of the installation, but that was the only time I have seen them do anything power related.

If you want anything like concealed wiring, nice faceplates etc then you need to pay your own electrician or data cabling tech to do it. Why would sky do that for nothing?

hi, sorry not fully schooled on how to reply properly in forums but richms - this is why im asking, because im not sure what it involves, all i know is that i want a tv on bracket on wall, with power point installed in appropriate place with no wires showing ..... just trying to figure out best and most economical way of achieving this :)

Where are you planning on putting the sky box? Keep in mind you need to be able to hit it with the remote controls signal.

i didn't think of that, can you get tv brackets that incorporate settop boxes and perhaps dvd players
how do other people get that clean look of just tv on wall /via wall bracket?
all i know is that i have the perfect wall for it in my room, it would prob easier to find nice unit for tv, and then all these wiring issues wouldn't be issues, but space wise and look wise the tv will look way better on the wall........

There are shelves to do that, but then the sky box and the dvd player stick out from the wall negating the niceness of a slim tv on the wall. May as well chuck it on a cabinet underneath. You can get remote repeaters to let you use the remote without line of sight to the sky box but again more money.

Regardless of where the box goes you will need to sort out the cabling from there to your tv. If it's not a mysky hdi you will need analog video cables to the tv, for mysky hdi you need a hdmi cable. You will need to hide whatever cables you need for your dvd player or get a bluray so it also will use a hdmi cable.

None of this will be done by the sky installer. You need a av system installer to do work Like this and it can be messy and time consuming to hide cables and you may need some remedial redecoration afterwards.

I would suggest you avoid any solutions offered by the sky installer as they are usually not the most competent of installers since sky pay so badly for installs.

What about putting the TV on the wall as you thought, then running some conduit or capping that is wall coloured down the wall with the cables in and having the sky box etc. on a table or shelf lower down - not quite as nice as having the cables internal to the wall, but should still look very tidy.

That would be the easiest solution. The Sky installer won't do it though, all they will do is run another cable from your LNB (Sky Dish) to your location, unpack a decoder, plug it in and check it works. Some of them are more proud of their work than others, but you get what you pay for.
You could pay someone to put the cables in the wall, and put a powerpoint and AV outlet up behind where you want the TV to go. It's all about how much you want to pay, how much you can do yourself, and what the Wife says :/
