Hi, I (maybe prematurely) purchased a Dual DVB-S tuner that has onboard CI slot which I assumed I could put the Sky Smart Card in for my home theatre Windows 7 PC. What I didn't read was I needed a CAM (conditional access module) to insert the SmartCard into first, then the CAM goes in the CI slot. So I'm missing the CAM.

I understand it may be an NDS CAM I'm looking for but there doesn't seem to be much info out there on exactly which NDS CAM may work, if any. Does anyone have this working? do you know what brand of CAM I need?

The tuner card is: TBS6991SE DVB-S2 Dual Tuner Dual CI PCIe Card

There was some information that a dragon CAM might be able to do NDS but I've never heard of it working for SkyNZ. Wouldn't recommend going down that path.

The best path would be to get a card reader like the OminKey 3121 and then use OSCAM to access the card. Depending on what TV tuner software you use will depend on how you set it up to access the card but most use an MDAPI plugin with something like ACAMD. It sounds like lots of moving parts but it works pretty well in practice. Have a search of the geekzone forums and you should find heaps of information about getting it working.

Cheers guys. Mate's of mine have suggested the ACAMD method as they use it themselves but thought it was worth a crack to see if anyone had been brave enough to try a CAM.

I'll see if anyone else posts otherwise Joel I'll probably be keen for your OminKey 3121 (assuming it's still for sale in next few days).

Did you have this working successfully? I think it was the Omnikey 1021 I was looking at previously. Ref:

Working.... yes and no.

My target was to create a kind of ip TV headed.
Where I download 10+ transponders worth of data at once, decode it, and offer each channel on its own IP address and or port simultaneously.

I was then going to send all 60+ channels to another headed which re-encodeds and compresses each channel so that it is suitable for me to use anywhere (mobile/wifi/etc).

Also I was going to use Xbmc clients to view all channels/epg using its inbuilt PVR.

Xbmc PVR is still not quit wife friendly, and though I still think if I devote another 40+ hours into the project it would work, it hasn't yet. Plus my wife is due to pop any day, and I have heaps of renovation work to finish. .. time is something I do not have.

Would be good to prove I could build a $30k TV headed system for bugger all.. but oh well.

Also usb card reader IMO is better than a Cam as you are not tuner limited.

To use it properly you need a Cam quad tuner card device and you could never increase the tuner amount without using another sky card.

Whereas using a usb card reader you can have 10+ tuners on one sky card.... A bit more flexibility. ..

ok sounds good. I agree with what you say that the hardware CAM will limit me to Sky only on the one tuner and I do have a second tuner installed so that will be an issue. So just confirm please, this Omni you have you've had it working successfully with with NZ Sky, even though you didn't reach your ultimate goal? If so then I'll buy off you.

The more wide spread this practice gets and the more people discuss this is a public forums the more likely sky is to put an end to it. Just as Foxtel did in Aussie. I wish it could be kept a bit low key.

Doesn't Sky still get the revenue from the subscribed card ?
