Hi guys

I am hoping this is a problem people have or are expecting to have and already have a few solutions.

Does anyone know if the new/replacement sky box remote is the same/sends the same signals as the current mysky/mysky +.

My folks have a media cupboard, with a mysky+ and an older sky box that is due to be replaced as part of the coming upgrade programme.

These boxes are disputed around the house to several screens using VeCoax RF Modulators.

Each screen has access to both decoders.

The current IR system is a Xantech and the existing sky remotes are used. (mysky grey one and skinny black old sky one)

We are hoping the new replacement skybox remote does not clash with the existing mysky or both boxes will change channel.

Does anyone know if this is the case or can both boxes exist together ?

If they don't work what alternative solutions are there?

-My brother suggest swapping the new skybox for a review box that can take the sky card

-I've suggested looking into Rf remotes for the new sky box only, though I have no experience with them so do not know if this will work, as we would need 3 or 4 identical remotes for the different rooms.

-As it is for my parents it needs to be easy to work.

I expect this to be a common issue.

I am looking forward to your replies, answers and suggestions.

IIRC the new sky boxes use the same remotes as the MySky units.

I believe I will be in a similar boat shortly when my silver sky digital box is upgraded. The only solution I have at the moment is to completely separate the ir circuits. I know that isn't the result you want, but unless Sky provide multiple ir code sets, or an app to control individual boxes via wifi, I can't see a way around it.
Most good OEMs of consumer electronics (Panasonic, Samsung, Pioneer, Sony, Onkyo, etc) provide multi ir sets / apps to allow multiple units to happily co-exist. I guess Sky doesn't qualify.

I have heard there is a way to get around this, I will pick some brains and post back on this when i know, otherwise separate ir systems yes.

No, the new Skybox doesn't use the same codes as the MySky (Silver/HDi/+) units. There are a few on here who are having trouble with the new Skybox and their Harmony remotes (Harmony database doesn't have codes for the new box.... yet)

If they were the same then using the MySky codes would work... but they don't! The new remote looks the same as that for the MySkys but obviously the internals differ.

Tangier that news on the new remote sounds very promising. I'll just have to stick a label on the remotes to tell em apart but I can handle that.

Interesting... I wonder why the codes for the MySky units don't work with the new Skybox units with a Harmony remote then? (Not something I've done personally, just going by what I've seen mentioned on here!)

Is the remote from the MySky or the new Skybox? Do both remotes work both boxes?

Thanks Wingbat, you have confirmed what I feared.

I'm not quite sure what to do now. Guess I will tell my folks to hold off on the decoder upgrade for as long as possible, until a few 1000 other people strike this issue and a decent solution comes up or sky pull finger and do something themselves.

I have two mysky boxes myself and run a dual channel Blue Eye IR system which works great but my parents do not have cat wired to the their tvs so options are limited.

If any one has any further suggestions or comments please keep posting as i'm open to any suggestions.

The harmony remotes are giving issues and I have seen another post relating to it too, but as it (the harmony) is a non sky remote sky have NO details about it.

The remote is the same for

mysky HDi, mysky+ and skybox now, so the older remotes will be gone and the mysky remotes will be the standard
