Can someone please tell me why you don't get 1920 x 1080i on the Movie 1HD, Sm Greats HD channels and TV3 but you do on Sport 1 and 2.. When using component connection from sky to HD LCD TV.

but when HDMI is connected you get all the above channels in 1920 x 1080i

is it something Sky TV have locked in the box?

On the Movie 1HD, SM Greats and TV3 channels there is a function called the "ICT Flag" which prevents output in HD over component video. The idea is to prevent somebody copying the programme in HD, so your decoder downscales the video to SD. A really, really stupid and unnecessary thing to do, but such are the ways of Hollywood moguls determined to protect their precious programmes from being pirated.

Whereas on Sky Sport 1 and 2, there is no such restriction, so you get to enjoy the HD goodness via component video.

With HDMI, there is a function called HDCP, which supposedly prevents someone eavesdropping on the signal and copying it, so you are able to receive the full HD signal over HDMI at all times, so long as your TV is HDCP compliant.

Thanks Grant, yes that does sound a waste of time as if someone wants to record their movies in HD they would do it through HDMI through a DVD recorder of the like.... wouldn't they?

But anyway... would the HD work if outputting from Mysky HD through a HDMI cable into a component splitter box then through to the LCD on component.....

You can't record via HDMI to a DVD recorder - because no DVD recorders have a HDMI input and DVD isn't a HD format.

You can record HDMI using a Blu Ray recorder that supports HDMI inputs but being digital format with DRM it won't allow you to record something that is copy protected, this would stop you recording a Sky movie.

If you want HD from component you'll need to buy a HD Fury. It's the only device out there that will do what you want to do.
