I have Sky Digital. I have a Sony 32" 100hz HD LCD.

My Sister has Sky Digital. She has a flash 200hz Samsung LCD.

Her picture is AMAZING (even without HDi)

4 Questions - re getting MySkyHDi

To what extent does the TV hz effect the picture quality??

If I get MySkyHDi will the picture be better than her normal old Sky Digital?

Am I selling myself short by getting MySkyHDi only having a 100hz TV?

If we both got MySkyHDi would her picture be twice as good as mine?

Simple answer, there will be no difference between 100hz and 200hz. Broadcast TV in NZ is broadcast at 50hz (correct me if I'm wrong). Any TV that promises 100/200hz is simply artificially increasing the hz, and arguably not always successfully. Hz does not drastically effect the picture quality (except some would argue for HD Sports).

Considering the compression that Sky uses on its SD feeds, the picture shouldn't be that amazing! How are your two TV's connected to the Sky Boxes? Via component, rca or s-video?

MySkyHDI will produce better pictures, especially with the HD ticket and HDMI (on selected channels). Even normal SD content should look better (IMHO).

You are not selling yourself short, keep the 100hz TV if you like it! It's all a marketing gimmick anyway.

Her picture will not be twice is good as yours, there should be little difference between the pictures (excluding obvious TV quality issues or settings).

Get MySkyHDI and enjoy the HD content.

First thing I ever do with a TV that claims it has 5 million Hz processing is turn it off. I've yet to ever find a TV that it didn't annoy me on.

As pointed out above all broadcasts are 50Hz. A 100Hz (or greater TV) simply increases the refresh rate using interpolation to make it's own frames up. The result is that most content looks funny and has strange effects such as looking like it's been speed up.

I was always of the opinion that increasing the Refresh Rate (ie 100Hz over 50Hz) only made a noticeable difference on CRT sets. It certainly makes a difference on CRT PC monitors when you bump up the refresh rate.

Having said that, I can see why a higher refresh rate could be important for 3D TVs where they have alternating frames for each eye.

I think maybe you just like the picture on your Sister's Samsung more than the Sony - IMHO Samsung LCD panels look brighter and the colours 'pop' more on them than the Sony ones - but that is a personal observation and I would be happy if someone gave me a TV of either brand.

I have a Panasonic 50" Full HD plasma and got MySky HDi installed a year or so ago. When the technician installed it, he forgot to call Sky to let them know that he had done the job, and for the first couple of hours of watching it, the picture looked the exact same as it had on my regular Sky box. Then when we noticed pause and rewind weren't working we called Sky to find out why not and they realised then that the technician had failed to call them to close his job off which would have automatically updated our package to turn on pause / rewind etc. The CSR put me on hold and the box rebooted. When it came back on, the channel names changed from 'TV1' to 'TV1 HD' etc and the picture was noticeably better, even though the content on at the time was in SD. I believe that the streams they use of the regular channels for MySkHDi customers have a much higher bitrate than those that go out to the regular sky boxes and I'm guessing that this is why your Sister's picture looked so much better than yours. Get MySky HDi but bare in mind that 32" is abOut the lower limit of size where you can actually tell the difference between SD and HD.
