Hi
I have a Motorola KRZR K1 that I need to get unlocked. Besides trying to contact the service provider in the USA what are my options here in NZ? Can it be unlocked?

Well I can't help you with the unlocking, but I can save you time by telling you it won't work here in NZ period.

Because the stretchus posted this by mistake on CDMA forum and we all know that imported CDMA phones are not added to the network.

I have moved this thread to the GSM forum. It helps a lot if the OP selects the correct forum.

Well given the OP made this post in the CDMA forum and the KRZR is a CDMA phone it was a safe assumption to make.

The Motorola KRZR K1 is CDMA/EVDO: See Mobiledia or Motorola. Its is on Sprint, Verizon, Alltel and U.S Cellular.

The Motorola KRZR (pronounced "crazer"), known as the "Canary" before it was released, is a phone recently announced for release by Motorola as the newest phone in the RAZR line. The phone was released in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2006, and was released in some other countries in September 2006. A GSM/EDGE model will be released by Cingular Wireless, Rogers Wireless, and Cincinnati Bell Wireless under the name MotoKRZR K1, and a CDMA/EV-DO model was released by Verizon Wireless, Sprint PCS, US Cellular, and Alltel under the name MotoKRZR K1m.

I quoted the official Motorola site. Wikipedia can't be used for this kind of stuff when you need precise information.

Hmm seems my links didn't. Check that Motorola page. As far as I'm aware Sprint and Verizon operate CDMA networks. Unless they switched without telling anyone.

You are thinking of the K1m, which is different from the K1. The first is CDMA EV-DO, the second is GSM/GPRS/EDGE.

Since the OP referred to K1 I understand it's the GSM version, in which case it should be able to be used in New Zealad if unlocked. If the OP comes back and clarifies it's the K1m, then tough luck, because we all know imported CDMA handsets are not connected to Telecom's network.
