Hi
Does anyone when PXT messaging between vodafone and telecom networks will be operational? At the moment if I send a PXT from my TX95 to a Vodafone phone they tend to get nothing or garbage, and from Vodafone I get garbage...

Its unclear yet as to when VF and TNZ will agree to open up the gateway to allow MMS messages across networks. Technically it can work okay but the problem is commercials....hopefully a deal is not too far away.

vodafone would be more interested in seting up one at the moment, they would be more interested in getting it going to other countries that support GSM GPRS,

Interesting because both use the Inphomatch services.

Remember that Vodafone has 45% of Verizon, an American CDMA carrier, so its on their interest to have this kind of connectivity going.

Telecom NZ is probably wanting this too. We'll just have to wait.

It brings back memories of when TNZ finally launched SMS on TDMA and BS/VF wouldnt agree to a commercial deal for inter network messaging for ages afterwards. Hopefully we users dont have to wait toooooo long this time.

You would think that there would be no point in delaying such an interconnect - it benefits both parties equally. More people are likely to take up PXT services if they know they can send and receive PXts from the other provider... the fact they are dragging their feet on this just looks petty and doesnt endear them to us customers :)

who says they are dargging there feet, maybe they have bigger or better projects to work on, I would rather see 3G rolled out before I can send pictures to a Telecom mobile handset, and being able to send PXT to my friends in Europe. Im sure alot of people on here think they just sit around up there all day doing nothing. We should be more worried about having a choice in home line service provider

I would dispute the comment that it would benefit both parties equally.

Back in the days before SMS interconnection, the vast majority of SMS users were on Vodafone and potential SMS users used to avoid Telecom like the plague because they knew that they would be unable to send to and receive from the majority of other SMS users.

MMS is the same in principle. Vodafone currently has the biggest MMS market share because they have a wider range of compatible handsets, and they jumped on the bandwagon much earlier than Telecom. As a result, anyone who is serious about using MMS will choose Vodafone over Telecom which means that when an interconnection agreement is reached, it will benefit Telecom far more than Vodafone.

Thats right with the last post why choose Telecom when Vodafones offers MMS and other services as we all know Telecom plays catchup on everything and by the Telecom goes MMS Vodafone would have rolled out 3G next year with live video and tv on your mobile like Vodafone in Japan has right now.

Its all about choice and you cant compare Telecom to Vodafone and the rest of the world has woken up its about GSM - GPRS - 3G not a second world standard like cdms cdmax1 which offers very little choice.

I would say why bother trying to send to someone on Telecom. Choose real choice and take up Vodafones $150.00 trade in and get what the rest of the world is experancing!

Hell shout them Telecom users a Vodafone mobile if they have not experanced a real phone and network.

I got all my family, aunts, uncles and even old grandad at 96 years old on Vodafone.

Thats my 5 cents worth.

I have to disagree. Vodafone has the weigh of 120 million customers and Telecom NZ has a small scale market.

For what I've seen I like Telecom NZ new ideas for the future. We had the first Wellington Windows Mobile User Group meeting 26/02/04 on Telecom's Laboratory and it was nice. Microsoft's manager for mobile devices was there and Telecom's folks also presented some of their stuff. People there had the chance to see and know about stuff coming out soon that people know little about.

Again, for the size of Telecom NZ compared with Vodafone and Telstra, the people there will be showing some good stuff.

Mind you I'm a Vodafone customer, but I can see when good stuff is coming too.

and it over 130 million customers, I will always use vodafone.

Even if Telecom offered me free everything, I just wish I had a choice in home line provider

I guess Telecom are probably to busy trying to renegotiate their SMS interconnect to bother about MMS yet, I heard some rather scary figures the other day in regards to the number of customers they are losing money on with $10 txt! :-) It doesn't take a genius to have told them if you create a plan for $10 a month for unlimited txt that there are going to be ppl sending hundreds or in some cases thousands of SMS's to Vodafone mobiles per month at 14c each and spending $0 on voice calls.

Thats just telecom they will pull the plug when all the kids have 027 mobiles, Just like half price calling from 027 to 027 that went out the door really quickly. I say never trust them, and looks like telecom are making lots of money for voda
