Hi, just recently I was trying to get free ringtones from the internet and got my phone number to some sites, but I didnt go thru with the full purchase process, since i noticed they would just charge your bill at the end of the month, so now Im receiving messages on my phone with music news and Im not sure if they are actually charging me monthly since someone else pays my bill, but I was just wondering if there was a way to get out of this !!! since I dont know what site is messaging me, it won't show on the text message. I'll appreciate any response.
Welcome to Geekzone... Really hard situation. This is one of the traps around the mobile industry - give your mobile phone number and you are forever paying.
You should be able to reply STOP to the messages... Most services would be obliged to follow the instructions. But of course if the service is a scam they might opt not to stop it.
If this continue after the STOP then your only option would be contacting the mobile operator and try to block messages coming from those numbers. An alternative would be try to block messages from those numbers.
If you don't do anything you might be paying a lot for those messages, even more than your normal service bill.
Clearly the idea of a collect call version of an sms wasnt thought of when they invented it. I would like to get a pop up that there is an incoming text from 8555 or whoever and it will cost me $x to receive and I can decline it at that point. The marketeers would hate that however ;)
