I've been connected to VF GPRS for the last 4 or 5 months and for each month my bill has stated that i've been using no less than 0.5Mb, however according to me phone I've only sent/recv'd a total of 0.7Mb for as long as I have had the phone which means there is about 1.5Mb unaccounted for. Also my actual usage consists of a quick explore around the vf Live! pages for a couple of minutes when I got my phone and about 20 accidental button presses into the Live! menu,. I also check my mailbox every 12 hours but that doesn't work so I dont get mail. I also downloaded a game about 5 times which accounts for about 50k. The phone says its been online for 16 hours but this is due to accidental button presses that sit on the vf Live menu which I am told are free to download.

So how can I be generating this traffic which I pay ($5) for each month when I'm almost doing next to nothing??

I have a SE T610

Anyone else wondering how VF determines your GPRS data usage figures?

So, are you paying this as occasional user, not part of a plan, right? Vodafone charges GPRS on increment of 10KBytes. Even if you e-mail checking is only 2Kbytes, you're still charged for the 10KB block.

That probably explains it then, since it was checking twice a day, with a minimum charge of 10 cents per block of 10kb even if I do 1kb per check, over 30 days that equates to a minimum usage of 600kb for billing purposes which is about $6. stink.

This still doesn't explain why the VF statement says something different to what your phone says. :S

How often does VF update their GPRS data usage when you login to their website? I have been on their plan for several days and it still shows no usage?

Vodafone LIVE usage/access is charged in 1KB increments,

Any attempts to connect to a not VFLIVENZ realm will result in any attempted usage being rated at 10KB (10c) unless you are on a data plan. EG: email cheacking, surfing google, other data/games/application data usage/free ringtone sites

34KB will be 40KB charge, 1KB will be 10c charge, very cheap compared to telecom's "non xtra" charges of 50c/10KB (5c per 1KB)

I have been told it charges in 20 minute blocks at which stage it rounds it up and schedules the charge. Even if you are just "dormant" but still connected.

to "fix" it, make up a "dud" data account and save it as default for WAP. when any of the numbers "live access" buttons are pressed, it'll try and access that and fail. set it to CSD data and to dial a number like "0800745555" and puch whatever in the other fields.
this won't work and hangup almost straight away. (the number is not available from mobiles blah blah)

for email set it to use the VLIVENZ one so it will still work!
