A while ago I decided to purchase a OnePlus 5 from the UK site of oneplus.net and have it shipped to my YouShop address with NZPost.

Big mistake! My fault that I didn't read their small print. When the parcel arrived at the UK warehouse I was informed that it was a prohibited item and couldn't be shipped to me in NZ because of a lithium ion battery. They offered to ship it to an address within Europe or to destroy the package within so many days. Panic stations!!

I called OnePlus UK support and explained my predicament. They informed me that it was possible to return the phone and get a full refund. Phew!! They also sent me a prepaid UPS label that they asked me to stick on the parcel and a number to include that would identify the parcel when it was returned. I requested NZPost to do this and received a response that stated they would print the online UPS label and stick it on the parcel and wait for UPS collection that I could organise online. They wouldn't put it in another wrapper and write the number that I requested them to do for my parcel identification.

Anyhow, UPS collected my parcel and in no time I received a full refund from OnePlus. Subsequently, I went to PBTech and bought my phone and ordered the accessories that they didn't have from AliExpress. Now the proud owner of a OnePlus 5 8GB RAM and am super happy with its performance. Finally wink

Thats a shame - just an FYI - you can use youshop USA just fine with mobile phones - I got mine directly from oneplus.net but used USA delivery when I wanted it quicker before any stores had it here.  Now I would buy it from PB as the markup doesn't appear to be high + local warranty.

Thanks for that info. Interesting. I wonder why they'd post a phone from the US to NZ and not from the UK?

A little sus about the local warranty bit. So far so good but hope that it really applies if required. They just gave me the receipt on purchase and no small print to read.

And now you can just walk into Noel Leeming and buy one off the shelf.

But can you try one out at Noel Leeming before buying? Not at Nelson branch, anyway.

Despite the Oneplus 5 featuring in their weekly promotions 'flyer', when I could not find one on display today,

I was told by a salesman that yes they have them in stock, but are instructed not to display them, supposedly

due to some marketing issue over being being parallel imported?

What's the point of going to a shop, if not to fondle a device before deciding to buy?

None. Send them an email to the effect "I will simply buy online if you don't have display models".

Just took a look at Noel Leeming's online site and it appears that they only have the 64GB version
