You can do it. Don't expect it to be very quick though.
You need to jailbreak the phone (www.hackthatphone.com), then install PDANet from Cydia which the jailbreak puts on the phone. Getting it going is pretty easy.
Apple will probably eventually add the functionality, but probably not on the current version of the phone as it's a bit underpowered, and it'd be a good selling point for a new model.
