Has anyone heard anything about free txting online?

Some places like seem to do it but they cut the message down to 120 characters. Its free and everything so I guess you can't complain...

Are there any other decent ones out there that don't cut down the message size?

There used to be pleanty of websites that did this.. i used a south african website smts.com for a good year for free and when that shutdown i moved to icq for txting.. However in the recent couple of years vodafone and telecom have restricted incoming texts from these networks. You wont find any decent service because of this, if you can even find a free texting service, even if it is only 120 characters it is a good deal, free is good..
Since there have been 1000txt plans i havnt worried about it. Back when you were paying 20c for every txt sent it was more of an issue

Oh well that sucks! Damn cell phone companies! Well try txt4u then.. Its a NZ site and works but the 120 character thing annoys me!
Yeh I'm on Telecom and the unlimited txts was awesome but since they changed to the 500 txt limit I hit the limit almost every month! The 2000 offered by Vodafone is appealing but no contacts of mine are on the Vodafone network... I try spreading my phone usage out by using the online txting when I can and then it won't cut into my 500 txt budget.

I was thinking of putting up a free anonymous texting website about 2-3 month but after doing some research did not find much demand for it so that?s why i never got around to setting it up. Well might have to reconsider now :)

Plus your legal fees might start to stack up when people start sending abusive texts!

Well not sure about the legal fees I think website owners are not responsible if someone abuses their service. For example twitter if someone posts abusive material i do not think that the owners of twitter will be held responsible for it.

I have the same problem, going way over the 500 all the time

however if 100% of your contacts are on telecom you should change to txtBOOST (or whatever they are calling it now), it gives you 1000 txts per month to telecom numbers

I would change over except I have a fairly even spread between 027 and 021 :s

Ohh I haven't heard of txtBOOST... Could be worth looking into!
In that case I could use txtboost and then use the online txting for any 021 messages I may send.
Only problem is no one seems to know any online services! Txt4u was really good but it got shut down for whatever reason. So back to paying the 20c per txt again... Yay..

really?!?! then again I guess you would know, a tad bit worrying as I run a fairly busy forum myself (although nowhere near as busy as geekzone!)

why on earth do they have this silly law, and is anything being done to get them to change it?

I'd say in that case the provider wouldn't be held solely responsible but will be made to do something about it - be it cooperating with the Police or banning the person from using that mobile number. In schools we get presentations around Txt Bullying and the providers obligation to carry any complains through etc.
