Hi

I bought a K700i from a Vodafone store yesterday. I was reading reviews and peoples opinions on the web and have noticed people saying that getting the phone 'unbranded' makes it a lot more functional. I have a few questions

What benefits will I get if I unbrand my phone?

Is unbranding the same as unlocking?

What do I need to unbrand it?

For the last question, I think I need a DSS-25 docking station, but not sure. Are there any places in Christchurch (NZ) that can do this for me?

Would you recommend it?

Thanks everybody.

If you 'unbrand' it, it basically removes all Vodafone installed personalisations.

You might be able to use an MP3 as a ringtone, you wont have direct access via the top right key to Vodafone Live.

I had the K700i and didnt find that there were any major limitations because of Vodafone, I could still transfer new files, pictures, ringtones, songs, videos, themes betwen the computer and my phone...

Im not too sure if I see why people hate the branding so much...??? Im sure it affects some phones more than others.

I think there is a guy on GeekZone who does unbranding...

I have this phone and wouldn't bother unbranding it (unless you are dead set on mp3 ringtones or changing your wap homepage). You can download themes that change the appearence of the phone as is. Check out the "blub" theme loaded on your phone, i think it's much better than the default v! one.

The phone is unlocked already and you can use it on any GSM network.

Thanks for your replies - I've got used to the phone now and despite the fact that I don't like the Vodafone Live button on the right soft key I can see it won't provide much benefit to unbrand it.
