I found Caspa Movie and TV download on the Tivo t to be a great system, I downloaded a couple of free television programs and it works great. Found it better than Quickflix where I had streaming problems. I guess the it main flaw is the price at $4.95 to $6.95 for a movie and about $1.95 per television episode to expensive and the selection on offer a bit small (but it has improved over the past couple of months.

Just curious to know other peoples experiences and what people think of CASPA on the Tivo

It would be a great system if it had a larger selection of new titles. Prices are not too bad, compared to iTunes for example, considering the convenience.

I think it is ok, but I don't think the content is in HD. Also very limited content. If it had tvnz or tv3 ondemand shows then it could be good, but I doubt that will happen.

System and process works fine. Content is king and like most local services it falls short.

It might work better if Hybrid were to form a partnership with one of the main stream movie hire chains.

They could even run their own server and collect the revenue with just an "admin" fee going back to Hybrid.

The experience could lead to them starting a download hire service under their own banner, to the general public.

We've always found CASPA to be nice and quick, although its usually a mission finding a movie we can both agree on in their rather unusual catalogue. My main gripe with the service is the fact you can only top up $15 minimum at a time and Movies/Shows all cost $X.95, meaning I'll never really get my $15 worth... petty I know...

Nice concept, shame about the implementation.

Looked at when I first got my Tivo.

1. Very poor content lineup. there was pretty much nothing recent or that I was interested in viewing. Small selection of old and cruddy films.

2. Over priced. I might be willing to pay $4.95 (or more) for a recent release film, but not for the collection of ancient dreck that they listed when I looked. I can pick those titles up for $1 on cheapie night at the video store I walk past after work, if I am ever inclined to watch them. Or catch them when they re-run on TCM & MGM etc, given I'm already paying for the movie package.

I might take another look if they ever fix the range/pricing issue.

I would love to see a subscription based service. For example, I would be more willing to consume the standard definition content if it as a flat rate monthly cost. I've used CASPA once or twice when we originally got TiVo but I considered the content to be quite dated, limited, and costly for what it was. While I accept having a subscription model isn't perfect for all, it'd be great if the option existed.

I'd go for that providing that the movies were in HD with 5.1 sound.

I wouldn't - same issues as Caspa regarding pricing for the content range you get, albeit not quite as bad.

But, staple Netflix (which has more than 25x the number of films and vastly more TV series, and much more recent content as well) on and I would readily pay significantly more than that.

To me the writing was on the wall at launch with tvnz on demand having more compelling content than caspa - strong evidence that tvnz's backing of caspa was half hearted at best

A time-poor geek is hardly a geek at all
