I recieved my Tivo media device yesterday, and am going to use it for the bedroom. At present the only cable i have is from the old TV aerial but can get Maori/prime TV on it. The cable does have the old Male 75 Ohm socket on the end... do i need a 75 Ohm Female connector with a F59 plug on the end to connect to the Tivo machine....

If so can i get one of these from Dick Smiths???

And is one of thoses connectors like this ( as long as the other end is a female 75 ohm socket!!! ?

From memory the TiVo comes with a plethora of cables. If you have the RF aerial socket in the wall then there should be the cable to fit from that to the F connector plug on the TiVo already supplied. Then just HDMI or component out to the TV (whichever the TV can handle). If your aerial cable is fixed then you could get an adaptor (Dick Smith or Jaycar perhaps) or just change the plug. If you are getting Maori and Prime once you get the correct plug you should be away laughing.

I thought the TiVo came with the necessary cable to connect to a 75ohm (Belling Lee) wall socket. If not, then yes you can get one from Jaycar or probably Dick Smith, or an electrical wholesaler or TV retailer.
TiVoHD needs a UHF signal, but since you say you can get Maori and Prime (analog?) then you must have a UHF aerial.

Such a quick response.

No, there is no cable in the box i recieved for the tv connection and there is no wall socket, just the cable run. Will go to Dick Smiths therefore.

Have to say i got Tivo from a Telecom door to door Promotion ... whats more it was totally free!!!!!!!

Live in Henderson. Currently on Home lite broadband with 10GB monthly plan

Had a telecom guy knock on our door at 6pm one night last week offering free tivo, signed up straight away.

Checked with telecom following morning if the deal was correct.. told yes.. Tivo arrived by Courier yesterday morning , not yet connected though, hence question earlier.

Guess, first thing to do would be to give Telecom a call and see if offer is on in your area, as the Guy did say they were doing it in our street..

Not tech minded and i would appreciate an idiots guide how to fully connect it up from poening the box to the complete finsh, i do have HDMI conection on the TV.

Are you obliged to stay with Telecom for another 24 months or anything?

Wife signed the contract and you have to be with them for 12 months, hence an early termination fee of $199.

Right here goes :

At present i have home pc in seperate room with a thomson modem with 4 ethernet ports, one is obviously used for the pc ( Broadband internet ) , question therefore is can i run a 10 metre ethernet cable from the modem to the tivo ( as the tivo does require an internet connection to work properly).

And am understanding that the Ethernet cable is the same as a 10 metre Cat 5E Patch lead?? which i can get from Jaycar Electronics for way cheaper than at Dick Smiths.... i did say you were dealing with a total novice before.

Yeap, youve got it.

I find it funny that telecom is literally giving away Tivo's now, doesnt appear to be a great investment for TVNZ

You don't say if it is a wireless Modem? If so why don't you just use the wireless adaptor that comes with the TiVo (or at least they use to)...hey presto no cables! If not included now you may like to check out how much they cost, they do work very well IME.

Otherwise yes any old Cat5 ethernet cable will do the trick. They are a dime-a-dozen these days.

Excellent deal mate good one i paid 700 for mine and im still paying it off on my phone bill
Plz be aware that there is a programming issue at the moment but they will be fixing it in january
so you might have to reset your channels..

Im on my 3rd unit as last one was faulty

I think they are a great machine I use mine all the time and have the home networking package and send avi files from the pc to the tivo and vice versa
