Hi

I'm thinking of getting a digital camera as a christmas present for my girlfriend. Ideally looking at something under the $200 mark.

I don't know anything about digital cameras... is it possible to get a decent one for this price? Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Cheers

You can get something not too bad that will take decent photos. I suggest sticking with Canon or Panasonic, and most girls love colored cameras. Get something released reasonably recently, but the number of megapixels is irrelevant - less is actually better in many cases. dpreview.com has good reviews for specific models.

Thanks. At the moment I’m tossing up between:
- Canon Ixus115 ($198 at Jb hi-fi)
- Panasonic Lumix FH2 ($198 at Dick Smith)
- Fuji film Z90 (including case, SD card etc) ($238 at Dick Smith).

Interested in any thoughts on which is the best option out of these three. The Ixus115 and the Z90 seem to be the best based on the reviews I’ve read.

The Z90 is pretty tempting because includes a memory card and case.

Cheers.

Around the $200 mark my guess is that they're all probably similar. But just type in the name of the camera with "review" after it into your search engine and check for any reviews. These models get replaced every 6 months so I don't think anyone here can help with specifics unless they happen to have the same one.
